Celexa Side Effects Fatigue Information in Questions
celexa...and fatigue? I just started taking celexa 20 mg 3 days ago. I am not neccesarily sleepy but i tried to play basketball today and i could barely move! I am in good shape and play frequently. Today i could barely lift my arms over my head..?? I am sopposed to up my dose to 40 mg next week..and im afraid its going to get worse. I take it for anxiety and depression issues...and its the only real side effect i am having. Is there anything i can do about the fatigue?/

Simon W replied: "Celexa is a SSRI and they take a few weeks to work, if after 4 weeks you are still having problems you should see your doctor. Some people like Escitalopram better than Citalopram."

Paul A replied: "What you're likely feeling is "break-in" side effects of the Celexa. Those will likely last a couple weeks, and then start to get better. You didn't say when you take the Celexa, I found (by experimenting) the best time for me to take my Lexapro (also an SSRI) is with dinner, I sleep better at night and I'm more awake the next day."

severe fatigue with Celexa? Ok, I JUST switched from Wellbutrin to Celexa yesterday. About 2 hours after taking it, I literally felt like I had taken a bunch of sleeping pills! I could not keep my eyes open! I couldn't think straight, I couldn't concentrate, all I could do was sleep. I went to sleep at around 5pm, woke up at 10pm, ate, then went back to sleep and slept all night till 12 noon the next day (today). I was up for about 2 hours, then HAD to go back and lay down. I just got up again, and I am finally coming out of the fog that it put me in. Is this a side effect that is normal? Will it go away over time? I am desperate to find something that will take away my depression. I have taken Prozac, Paxil, Lexapro, Effexor, Wellbutrin and now Celexa. Has anyone else had this reaction to Celexa? I am afraid to take my next dose because I don't want to be put into another stupor. It made me feel like I was drunk, but without being drunk (if that makes sense?) I have two little kids and I don't feel safe taking this drug if it's going to do this to me. Luckily I have someone to help me take care of them, or else I would have been screwed yesterday, and most of today. Anyway~ any thoughts or opinions will be appreciated! Thank you,

Alexis replied: "Yes, I had a problem with fatigue. I take Celexa and at first I felt tired all the time and slept a lot, but not to this extreme. I ended up going to my doctor and he decreased the dosage. He also recommended I take it before bedtime. I've been doing this for over a month now and it's really worked for me. However, you're a different person from me so I'm not sure this would work for you. It sounds like its a major problem especially because you have two small children to care for. I'd make an appointment with your doctor and express your concerns. He should be able to give you some professional advice. Best of luck."

The World Is Ugly replied: "The same thing happened/has happened to me. Three possible side-effects of Celexa that effect sleep are insomnia, fatigue, and feeling unrefreshed when you wake up from a full night of sleep. It also has to do with the dosage you're taking. I'm 15 so the highest I could go was 60mg and on that much I had insomnia and felt tired all the time like you. When I told my doctor they recommended lowering my dosage and it has helped tremendously since, even though I do feel more fatigued than usual. My advice would be to see your doctor and tell him about what's happening to see what he recommends, depending on what might work for you, that isn't as drastic as switching medicines again. Maybe lowering the dose will help you as well. Hope you feel better!"

side effects from vyvanse? K so uhh..I've been taking Vyvanse for like 4 months right. I am currently taking 30mg of Vyvanse, along with 20mg of Celexa, and 50mg of Trazadone. Not sure when my side effects started but I think it was before I started taking the meds. Most of my symptoms started before I started the treatment. My symptoms/side effects..Intense migraines, irritability, hallucinations (hearing voices), hand tremors (hands shake..a lot), paranoia, mood swings, restlessness, insomnia (yeh, had this FOREVER, Vyvanse just makes it a helluva lot worse), loss of appetite, fatigue, I'm sure I'm probably forgetting some. yeh so out of all those..i think that the only side effects from Vyvanse were loss of appetite, and the hand tremors. Everything else I've had forever. Well I just want to know your opinions, and if I should keep taking Vyvanse?

Wind Wisperer replied: "Talk to your Doctor and get him to you on something else!"

celexa- working already or not? I started taking celexa 4 days ago for severe anxiety and moderate depression. The anxiety has caused me to have panic attacks every day for about the past 2 months. In the last 4 days I have not had a single panic attack! My throat is no longer tight and I can breathe better. I am having some other side effects, including headaches, nausea, fatigue and muscle pain, but I feel so much more relaxed. I realize that it's possible this could be like a placebo effect where I think it's going to work and it does, but I have been skeptical from the start. What do you guys think?

pharaoh_hatshepsut replied: "Generally, there is a rough week or two adjustment period to the drug were the side effects may be more prominent. Usually, you can expect the full results in about a month. This isn't to say that you couldn't be experiencing some benefits already."

Questions about Celexa? I started taking Celexa about a week ago, and I've only been experiencing side effects, and no good effects yet. Insomnia, nausea, fatigue, all of that stuff. I'm concerned about weight gain, because I've been on a VERY strict diet and exercise regimen for a little over a year. I was wondering how the weight gain actually occurs? Is it from increased appetite, just being hungrier more often? Or is it caused by a chemical reaction in your body, therefore making it impossible to avoid if it does affect you? I was also wondering about alcohol. I know you're advised not to drink with antidepressants, but I'm on a low dose and I do enjoy having a few beers on the weekend. It doesn't say on the bottle (or in the papers) that you shouldn't drink with Celexa, it just says it may intensify the effects. I know not to go overboard, but is it still alright to have a few drinks? Thanks in advance.

SGPearlGirl replied: "been on celexa 25/day, pluss 100/day bipolar meds for 2 yrs. i drink and smoke weed. makes me moody sometimes, but its fine. and thats normal for them to take a long while to really start working. (months). has helped me greatly"

Am I Pretty? replied: "I don't think drinking is a good idea when taking Celexa. I missed my 1 beer after work during the summer, but my first goal is getting rid of depression. I haven't had any weight gain because of Celexa. The only side effect I have had is uncontrollable tremors, especially in my legs. I'm taking Cogentin for the tremors, but it gives me dry mouth when the dose is high enough."

naturallydedicated replied: "Sorry about your side effects. I had problems falling asleep, and was precscribed medication, and then I had heard about Stemulite, which is all natural health supplement. There is a daytime and nighttime formula that is a binary formula to help maximize the benefits. In the nighttime formula, is an all natural ingredient by the name of melatonin, which helps you fall asleep deeply. This enables REM sleep, where a person can wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on a new day. I decided to just take straight melatonin, and it never worked as well as the Stemulite did, and that is in part of the manufacturing of Stemulite, which was made by a doctor. Anyone on either an MAOI, or tricyclic anti depressant? Is there anyone out there who didn't respond to any of the 'modern' anti depressants - but who has been helped by either an MAOI or a tricyclic? So far I've tried Citalopram(Celexa), Prozac, and now Effexor. They don't lift the depression very much at all, and always seem to cause fatigue, as well as other side effects. Any info would be really welcome. Thanks for your time.

Cheeks replied: "I had a trycillic and it made me feel like i was dying i was on them for two weeks and i had to go to AnE. I have tried lots of different ones and now have been on fluoxetine for 2 years and it suits me. I think its just a case of finding what agrees with you. I wouldnt recommend MAOI's though as they are very dangerous."

Number 3 replied: "I'm currently on the tricyclic Lofepramine. I didn't not respond to SSRI's, I responded dreadfully to them! I tried Seroxat and Citalopram, and each triggered suicial ideation, self injurious behaviour and manic periods. The manic periods lasted about 10 weeks in each case (2-5 times in total) and my behaviour during this spells was awful. I was hyper-sexual, took huge risks, stole, drank, took drugs and basically became someone else. After the reaction to both tablets, I have been advised to steer clear of all SSRI's. I have a few side-effects from the lofepramine - constipation, acid reflux, heartburn and queasiness. I do not feel as if I am responding positively to this medication, my depression has taken its natural course as if I wasn't taking any medications. I'm beginning to think I am med resistant. I've discussed this with my doctor, and I will be staying on lofepramine for another cycle (till April '08) and if it doesn't help, I will try something new."

Ladyofathousandfaces replied: "Well now Prozac goes back with the MAO's and tricyclic's, so it is not as modern as Effexor that came out in the early 1990's. Around 1994 i would say, for effexor, prozac has been around for ever. You are not going to find anything that is going to left your depression so it goes away, and stays away, there are no magic pills or wands out there. Now MAO"s and tricyclic do not mix, but sometimes they will be taking a person off of tricyclic and putting them on MAOI 's at the same time. I found this to be, well as i said today to a new therapist, i know how an Bipolar, feels when they hit those high highs, but the two of them are really a dangerous combernation together, at the same time. They can be as dangers as being taken by themselfs. You have to remember that everyone reacts to different meds in different ways, so it is really hard to tell if they would help you or not. For some they do, and for others they don't. And sometimes they will help then quit helping after a while, so this is a very tricky and touch subject you are asking about, if i was you i would take to my doctor about these, before taking them, and really know the dangers, and the side effects, the half life and the ful life of the pill so you know the building up of them, and know what you can drink and eat and what you can not. Some of these older medications worked good, but was very dangers for people to take that were depressed, cause it would be easy to do something to yourself that no one really would like to see or hear that you did. So the safe thing is to ask your doctor, and talk to him or her about it. And for some of the medications that you said are leaving you feeling fatigue, well you are having an oppisite reaction to them, cause for a fact some of those are taken in the morning cause they give you so much energy and could keep you up all night. But that two can change, you can have the fatigue, and be tired , then the next time they put you on them you may have to take them in the morning cause they get you going, and keep you going. Our bodies can have different reactions to these medications at different times, so be very aware of what you are taking. And what it is doing to you."

bubblehead61 replied: "i am one who did not respond to the "modern" antidepressants. tried them all in several different dosages and combinations. i now take an maoi called "parnate". i take 50mg twice a day. aside from some strict restrictions on food and medications. i have never experienced this sense of well being my entire life. happy as i'll ever be, bipolar II woman"

Anonymous61245 replied: "I took an MAOI for four years (Parnate). It was the only antidepressant that worked for me (not 100%, but it helped). Before you start taking it, be very sure that you can 100% adhere to the required diet. It is very difficult, more difficult than you may think. I had a hypertensive crisis (extremely high blood pressure, so high you can have a stroke) from something i ate by mistake. This drug can kill you if you're not careful - I know someone personally who died from a massive stroke while on it. And you could also become seriously disabled from a stroke. Permanently disabled. I don't mean to freak you out, but you have to take these types of drugs seriously. On a happier note, I am now medication-free for more than a year and a half (almost 3 years without an antidepressant). Use the medication to get you through this tough time, but work hard in therapy, and, eventually, you might not need the medication. Don't let people tell you that you need to be on it for life - they told me that for a long time, but it wasn't true for me. I feel better today, medication-free, than I ever did on medication, because I've dealt with a lot of the issues that were causing my depression. Medication can help, but there's no substitute for learning to deal with whatever's making you depressed."

Bell replied: "i tried a tricylic once and it was awful, i felt so spaced out and it affected me to the point where i thought i was going to lose my mind.. so i went back on prozac and i feel ok...!"

Only 23 and very sick. No one can figure it out. What is wrong with me? very underweight female. 23. born almost 4 months premature. was healthy until the age of 17 when i developed these symptoms: extreme fatigue, diagnosis of gallbladder disease (+removal of gallbladder). developed moderate depression (being treated successfully with zoloft. have also been on lexapro, celexa, prozac. all worked but side effects intolerable.), developed very painful joint pain in hips and down legs. (arthritis test negative). have daily headaches on the top of my skull. tested positive for COPD (have never smoked and have no history in the family). developed anxiety. developed unexplained tachycardia (being treated with atenolol.), developed rash on stomach which has been present for several years on and off. developed extremely painful menstrual cramps (periods have been stopped entirely by birth control medicine - nuva ring). Have developed melanoma in weird places not exposed to the sun and have not ever tanned or been out in the sun much. No scan ever performed. Spots seem to pop up overnight and when biopsy is done they have been melanoma cells. Each has been removed, with the last not being able to get clear margins. Have to be watched every few months to see if more pigmentation shows up. Generally do not feel "well." Not terrible, but not well. Am VERY tired all the time. Family History: Grandmother and Mother: prolapse mitral valve. Treated with Atenolol. Both had dysthimia as well. Treated successfully with Lexapro. Both had rare cancers. Mother had extremely rare form of lymphoma, one of 3 in the US at the time. Grandmother had bone cancer. Fraternal Grandmother: drug induced lupus. Bladder cancer. thryoid disease, goiter removed. Fraternal Grandfather: Lung Cancer. Diabetes. Father: IBS. Allergies. Hay fever. Sister: High testosterone levels (unexplained.) Weird rash on arms and face - mystery to doctors. Great Aunt: very very rare form of Leukemia developed in her late 60's. What is WRONG with me?!

Zoloft good or bad? Hi, I am 23 years old and have anxiety disorder. I have been on and off from antidepressants since i was 18. A few years ago I was pregnant with my first child, in the third trimester and started to hace panic attacks again. They tried me on wellbutrin and it did't work . . .made me more anxious. Then they put me on zoloft which worked fine except for the sexual side effects. So then they put me on celexa which I was on for 2 years, ended in April 2006 (stopped cold turkey, was on low dose, had terrible withdrawl symptoms for a few weeks). I was doing fine until the beginning August. I have vertigo and started to panic about it. I started feeling really fatigued and weepy, crying over nothing I would call it. My hands and feet would change colors and would tingle alot without me feeling anxious. So they said I was depressed and tried me back on celexa, I took it for 4 days and they were hELL. I was in constant anxiety, and when I wasn't having an attack I was sleeping or fatigued. I was afraid to go back on antidepressants since. So for the past few months I have been having the chills, the tingleys all over, the hands changing color, dizziness, light headedness, not able to concentrate, a wee bit of insomnia, episodes of fatigue, seeing auras, and circulation problems. Sometimes I freak out and have an anxiety attack where I actually feel anxious. But most of the time these things happen to me and I don't feel anxious. I have had MRI of the Head, CAT Scan of the abdomen, and numerous blood tests(they tested thyroid and hypoglycemia to)My doctor says my symptoms have become a symptotmatic . . .I have the anxiety symptoms but don't always feel anxious. Does anyone have this? She wants me to take Zoloft which I would start today . . .but I am so scared any thoughts . .I just don't know what to do. . .

bor_rabnud replied: "Zoloft® (sertraline HCl) is a type of antidepressant known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). lykes2win replied: "Absolutely go with the Zoloft. It's the only thing that cured me. I tried going off 2 or 3 different times over the past 8 years and realized that better to have a medication then to go through what your going through. BOY can I relate. Zoloft worked wonders for me. Now, keep in mind....many times it may take trials of different meds before the right one works. Give it a bit of time. The best you can. A right one WILL be found. I hope it will be the Zoloft for you, as me. (Wellbutrim did not work, nor did Paxil) It took a week before the Zoloft kicked in and started to work. My best to you and keep your chin up. You're not alone and IT WILL GET BETTER....just please give it a chance. Take care, Cyn"

Joe C replied: "OK I'm going to say two words take them with you and listen close STOP IT!! no I'm just playing I'm honestly against doctors diagnosing so Meany ppl with anti anything I'm trying to become a pharmacist some day the last thing you do is just stop or start something new to quick ask you doctor that's the best answer your going to be able to get good luck Hope I helped Joe Cantic"

jrgannapolis replied: "I liked zoloft except it gave me urgent gastro issues. It worked well. Now I take lexapro daily and xanax or ativan as needed. Not as good as Zoloft but with less side effects, weight etc.."

one hot mamma replied: "i have take zoloft for almost 2years now for PMDD. it has helped me alot. even my family and friends can tell a difference. i hope you find something to help."

sweet-pea~666~ replied: "reading your storie is like reading my own journal! I two am 23 with a panic disorder and have been on a laundrey list of meds. With my first preg. i was a reck i didnt feel like i wass a good enough person to beable to raise my son. I strugled throw it and i was perscribed celexa (sp?) for post pardum. I still suffer from anxiaty atacks now and again but i have learned coping skills for them (sleeping properly, not drinking too often....ect) i have really done well on it and am expecting my second child in jan. I have stayed on it and i will have to switch to a different type befor delivery so the baby isnt affected. Then switch back after birth. I understand the rollercoster your on and feel for you. Mabe celexa could help you! Best of luck! I have also heard of mood stablilizers, i havent tryed since i just heard of them and cant try any thing new yet. But give it a go! good luck!"

TnMtnMan replied: "Zoloft is good, but again, some people have the sexual side effects. Lexapro is another fairly new anti-anxiety drug. If you take either one and have those side effects, try getting doctor to switch to other. Either one is really tough coming off due to it's short life. For most people, the Zoloft withdrawals seems to kick in 3-4 days, the Lexapro 2 days seems avg. To me, the Lexapro seems to loose it's "punch" over 8-12 month span though and doesn't seem as effective long term."

Gypsy Girl replied: "I took Zoloft for a year for depression and it worked well for me. The problem was that I actually have bipolar disorder and the Zoloft was causing me to be manic. You don't sound like you have bipolar disorder so it should be fine for you. I didn't notice any side effects."

boggin828 replied: "I have heard that zoloft is just fine so long as you are out of your teenage years. If you take it before or during puberty, it can make depression worse. I have been taking lexapro, and have been a happy camper since. Don't be scared. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work and you try something else. Depression and anxiety can be a tough thing to cure, just be patient and remember that once it is "cured", it will have all been worth it. Good luck!"

alicia replied: "I am reading and is like is me writing. i had try Zoloft and paxil and did not help i am on Prozac and bupropion hcl 75 mg. i am taking generic brand of Prozac called Fluoxetine hcl 20 mg and bupropion is for enhancing mood ask doctor or check on google good luck DO NOT STOP TAKING THIS KIND OF MEDICINES COLD TURKEY IT IS DANGEROUS"

rach7411 replied: "The tingleys are the worst! I've always had them, and all the tests that go with them. I took Zoloft for 2 years, but the sexual side effects were too much for me. There are so many new meds out now, you just have to find the right one for you. I went through about six before I got the right one, be patient! Ask your doctor for some other choice that might suit your needs, Zoloft was the only one that had those side effects for me, none of the others did."

ana_banana replied: "Okay, why did everyone seem to miss the word "hypoglycemia"? Do you realize that all these symptoms you are mentioning could be caused by not mental problems, but by the hypoglycemia itself? Please read this: Signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia can vary from person to person. According to American Diabetes Association, the symptoms of hypoglycemia include: shakiness, dizziness, sweating, hunger, headache, pale skin color, sudden moodiness or behavior changes (such as crying for no apparent reason), clumsy or jerky movements, seizure, difficulty paying attention or confusion, and tingling sensations around the mouth. Also, read this about reactive hypoglycemia, another type: When you consume carbos, your insulin production increases. If you have RHG, your body overcompensates. This results in low blood sugar. RHG can range from very mild to severe. Symptoms include headaches (usually in the front or top of the head), dizziness, irritability, chronic fatigue, depression, nervousness, difficulty with memory and concentration, nasal congestion, heavy dreaming, palpitations or heart pounding, tremor of the hands (especially if a long time elapses between meals), day or night sweats, anxiety in the pit of the stomach, anxiety, leg cramps, numbness and tingling in the hands and/or feet, flushing, and craving for carbos (especially sweets). The hunger pangs experienced in reactive hypoglycemia can come in the form of acute stomach pain and nausea. Severe RHG can cause hypoxic symptoms such as visual disturbances, restlessness, impaired speech and thinking, and blackouts. You can expect excess body fat, high triglycerides/cholesterol, fluid retention, dry skin, brittle hair/nails, dry small stools, decreased memory and ability to concentrate, fatigue or dips in energy, grogginess when waking, mood swings/irritability, and sleep disturbances. In cases of chronic MPS, the process of eliminating TrPs is hampered or even thwarted by the presence of hypoglycemia. TrP activity is aggravated and specific therapy response is reduced by hypoglycemia. Recurrent hypoglycemia attacks perpetuate TrPs. MAny of these symptoms are caused largely by circulating adrenalin, which is also increased by anxiety. See if any of that fits you."

Need a DR's advice- OCD drugs and mental health- Urgent-? My best friend was diagnosed with a sleep disorder 21 years ago in 1988- She was prescribed two drugs...Xanax, and Tofernal- At first the combination of these two drugs made her drowsy, but she would still go two, three, and even 4 days in a row without sleep. Then, her DR at that time increased her xanax in take to 3 10 MG per night- I always thought that was excessive and I watched my friend grow fiercely dependent on these two drugs- She absolutely had to have them, if she ran out one night and didn't get to the Pharmacy on time she would freak out- After 20 years of this cycle she finally decided she was going to ween herself off- She started going to a new Holistic DR (who is also an MD) who prescribed her Ambien and weened her off the Tofernal- Now- she is an Ambien addict- sometimes taking 20 MG per night- Ever since she quit with the Tofernal she has become completely OCD- She walks around so anxious everyday that she shakes uncontrollably, her limbs get numb, and then she convinces herself she has a brain tumor, aneurysm, heart disease, MS, and the list goes on- All I hear is how her muscles and spine feel so fatigued. She is in the ER at least once per week- She see's 3 MD's and a Holistic DR every single week- They have tested her for every disease known to man- they find nothing and tell her it's stress- Which I believe- I say this because the minute she gets her MRI results and knows it's not a brain tumor, suddenly she claims there is something wrong with her stomach- All of this stuff consumes her- I talk her down off a ledge for hours every day and I'm growing tired of it. She exhausts me. Now she wants to go back on the Tofernal because she never had all this OCD type worry when she was on it- Her new Doctors want her to try Celexa and Lexapro instead- So she fills the prescription...reads the possible side effects...panics...and will cut the celexa into a 1/4 of its size and take it... and within 5 minutes scream that it's making her feel weird and she thinks she is having an allergic reaction. I can't take it- I too just want her to go back on the toffernal so she will be normal again...The Doctors try to council her and try to talk her into giving the new meds a chance to work- she leaves their office confident and then freaks out and wont follow through- So in the meantime she has gone many months completely untreated and running around all freaked out like a crazy woman- My thought is...what difference does it make if it's Tofernal- or Celexsa?- Just give her the one she feels comfortable taking so she can get better- Period- I SOOO want to call her Doctor and tell her all of this, but I don't think it's ethical- Any thoughts?

mini roo replied: "call her doctor. she is suffering from an extreme upregulation of NMDA and calcium dependent channels, and an extreme downregulation of GABA receptors. the only problem she has = Benzodiazepine dependence. unfortunately, it is one of the hardest addictions to break, and is also one of the hardest to treat. i feel so bad for her, i had to quit benzos and it was the worst drug withdrawal of my life. u should take her too the doctor before she kills herself or does something really not good,"

New Roots Chill Pills, From Anxiety and Stress? Hi Everyone! I am 18 years old girl and been suffering from anxiety for nearly 3 years now, and it is very hard lately because i went back to school and i get very anxious so i been having bad anxiety attacks lately than rise my blood pressure up to 163/96 which i guess is normal for people who suffer from anxiety.
