Amy H replied: "Well, I am in kind of the same fix. I have developed a tolerance for them actually very quickly. I had a minor car accident a month ago. I developed whiplash from being hit from behind. I drive a small car. I was at a stop sign and a lady in a big, white SUV hit me from behind. She barely hit me, but it was hard enough to cause some minor damage to my rear end of my car and give me whiplash. Well, they also discovered I had some chronic back problems that I had never had pain or problems from until I got hit too. I had a compressed vertebra, compression fractures, bone on bone action between L4 and L5 that I never knew about because I never had pain from them at all...until she hit me. I was in some serious pain. I went to the hospital and they gave me low doses of morphine to help with the pain until they released me. When they released me, they gave me 5/500 hydrocodone (Vicodin, Lortab, etc.) and Ibuprophin. Are you kidding? Going from morphine to a low dose of Lortab? it didn't touch my pain. They wanted me to take 1 every 4 hours (and mind you they only gave me 20) or 2 every 6-8 hours. I was in such pain, I had to take 2 of those suckers ever 4 to 6 hours. The pain kept getting progressively worse and worse, so I had to go back to the doctor, and he gave me some 60 10/500 mg Lortabs and 60 muscle relaxers. That helped for the most part, but sometimes I would be in such pain that I would have to take a Lortab every 3 or 4 hours. I was getting low on those after 2 or 2 1/2 weeks, so I went to the health clinic that I go to most often, and the doctor though that 3 Lortab 5/500 and 3 600 mg Ibuprophins would do it, but it didn't. He only gave me 20 and needless to say that I had to go back whithin 5 or 6 days. Plus, one morning I was sitting on the couch putting my make-up on getting ready for work, when my sacrum, arms, legs, hands, and feet started tingling and feeling like they were trying to go to sleep. I then started hurting really bad. I called the doctor's office that day for an appointment. Since I am poor and have no health insurance, I have to go to the "poor man's" doctor, so I saw another doctor who gave me 90 Norco 10/325 mg tablets (hydrocodone plus a low dose of tylenol). She perscribed me 3 a day, but my pain was so escalated, that I had to sometimes take 1 and 1/2 or 2 to kill the pain. Sometimes it would completely take the pain away, and sometimes it would barley take the edge off. I think I have built up a tolerance very quickly to these things or my pain is very bad or both. I think it is both because my pain is very bad at times. I am ashamed to say that I used to be a drug user. I used to smoke a lot of pot, and do lots of cocaine and crack, and do pills some here or there (but I never really did that many pills that often, just every once in a while), but I quite cold turkey 5 years ago and never have looked back. I never had the withdrawal everyone said I would have. I never had to go to rehab or a doctor to get on methadone or any kind of drug to help me out. I am clean now. I never was much of a drinker, and I don't smoke cigerrettes. I never was a heavy, heavy user. I have always had low tolerence to things. When my ex and I were using, he would use far more drugs to get high, while I didn't have to use but maybe 10-25%(25% at the most) of what he was using to get high, and my tolerence never increased to the point that I had to take more drugs to get high. It stayed always the same because I am somewhat sensitive to drugs. I have been clean for 5 years, so my tolerence is basically virgin levels, just like yours because you were never a user. I have been googling information on hydrocodone and other pain killers. Everyone eventually builds a tolerence to hydrocodone. Even sensitive people or ones who never used drugs. You and I both have built a tolerence to hydrocodone. Me after a few weeks to one month (my accident happened exactly one month ago today 8/21/08) and yours must have been even more recent than that. I have read all kinds of bad things about hydrocodone. You have to be careful because one could abuse or become addicted to them very quick and easily (and not even mean to or be aware of it), you can't drink with them (which I have never been much of a drinker, but I was drinking this Jewish kosher wine that is really good with them for a few days. Only 3 or 4 ounces here or there, but I still think that was a bad thing to do) you can't take too much of them because they can damage your liver. You are not supposed to go over 40 mg of hydrocodone a day (I just found out that today and I have gone over at least once, maybe a couple of times), you are not suppossed to go over 4,000 mg of tylenol (which I already knew, but I might have once or twice, but I think I stayed at 4,000 mg or below), and be careful of other drugs (over the counter or perscribed) while taking hydrocodone. I am scared now that I might need my liver checked. I may be ok since I don't thi"
