What is a cleanser that i could use along with differin? I am using differin for my acne but i don't know what kind of cleansers i would be able to use and how often should i cleanse my face?

what are some good moisturizers to use along with the prescription acne gel differin? i've been on differin a week and it is really drying and maing my skin itchy. i know this is to be expected, so what is a good moisturizer to use that won't clog pores and not mess with the effectivness of the differin?

CoCkRoAcH replied: "i use cetaphil-my dermatolgist told me about it you can pretty much by it anywhere walgreens/walmart..doesnt clog pores-and doesnt stop the medicine from working."

pom replied: "i tried to use differin and it was horrible! i couldnt even touch my face! it felt like it was on fire for over a week, i couldnt even put water on it! it was awful... ya i know this doesnt really have anything to do with your questions soooo use cetaphil"

Can anyone tell me if you can use oxytetracycline oral antibiotic and differin gel at the same time? i have been prescribed differin gel for pitted scars by my dermatologist.i havent used it yet but now i have now a case of perioral dematitis flaring up (around the mouth) since i last had it 14 years ago. can i use them both at the same time? also can anyone tell me what can actually be causing this flare up? and can you actually use differin around the eyes?

Paula replied: "You shouldn't get any medication near your eyes. It might not make you go blind, but it won't be pleasant, either. You should be able to use both medications at the same time, as long as the instructions and interaction warnings don't advise against it. Every time my dermatologist has prescribed an antibiotic, he prescribed a topical to go with it. To be safe, ask the pharmacist."

Why use Duac at morning and Differin at Night? My dermatologist said to use Duac in morning and Differin at night but on the tube the pharmacist sticky taped 'use in morning' on Differin. Both of the box said 'use in morning'. Some people say they wer advised to use Duac at night and DIfferin in the morning. I'm quite confuse? When and why? Does it make any difference?

sarah replied: "i also use these:) personally, i don't think it could make much of a difference, but it is probably best to stick with what your dermatologist told you. they know what they're doing=)"

Currently im on Differin but is it possible to use salicylic (0.5%) Oxy pads to cleans my face? i went to my dermatologist and he put me on differin and minocylin..but he never told me if i could or should use a cleanser or anything else so im just curious if i could use this and anything else...? thanks

Nikky N replied: "probably shouldn't, your face may react from too many medications/cleansers at one time."

Cutie replied: "Don't. I was on differin, and it dried out my skin really bad I had to go off of it. I looked like a lobster it made my face so red. I would just use a antibacterial cleanser, probably one that moisturizes."

otisia24 replied: "i personally am i differin and benzaclin and my doctor told me to get cetaphil. it is a mild soap so that the medication and your cleaner doesn't over dry your face. i HIGHLY recommend it :D"

Can I use moistuizer after applying Differin? Or will it make my skin itchy? I use the Derma E clear skin 3 problem skin moisturizer. Can I use it after applying Differin?

Allie Lynn replied: "I know you might want to cause differin makes your face feel kind of dry and weird. It is best not to use moisturizer but if you do us a dime size amount and be sure it is oil free and you should be fine."

Fortunate Fool replied: "Yeah. I used to use it and my dermatologist said to moisturize after it. Moisturizer is a good thing, it won't clog your pores like most people think (and it definitely won't make it itch)."

Dog replied: "i wouldnt cause it is supposed to dry out the bad parts - instead i used the differin at night then in the morning i used moisturiser"

Ashley replied: "I also am using Differin and my dermatoligist said wait 2 HOURS after you put on your moisturizer. If you put it on right away then it doesn't give the differin application enough time to work on your skin. So wait 2 hours before you apply moisturizer or just apply it in the morning if you can't wait 2 hours. Also to help the dryness of your skin. after you wash it wait 15 minutes to put on Differin. If you do that then your skin won't be as dry! Hope this helped!"

Maggie MercuryMorrisonTownshend replied: "Definitely apply moisturizer after. But yes heed the warnings, and wait some before you put it on. I would reapply the moisturizer (make sure it has spf) in the mornign as well."

What's the best way to use differin for maximum results? I want my skin to clear up fast, but permanently. What is the best way to use it? My doctor said to put it on for 4-5 hours the first week or so then wash it off before bed. I have it on now. Should I wash it off and not put it back on or should I? I don't think wearing it twice in one day is a good idea...

mercurialred replied: "I have terrible acne and the differin gel is working really good for me. But I must warn you that it could take 4 weeks before you start to see any improvment. Actually, things usually get worse before they get better so hang in there. I was told to wash my face before bedtime and apply once then and then repeat the next night, etc. (Also applying a thick layer will not help and it will probably only make things worse)"

tlarson98 replied: "I have dealt with acne for many years...and I have used Differin for a long time. I was told to use the gel before bed and leave it on through the night...then to also apply a thin layer before I put my makeup on in the morning...if you're skin gets irritated, just use it at night. As with most acne treatments, it takes 4-6 weeks to REALLY see results and it will probably get worse before it gets better. IF your skin gets very irritated and dry and doesn't improve with time... try switching from Differin GEL to Differin Cream. They are the same product, but the cream is gentler on your skin... and I eventually had to switch over because the gel was too harsh and I couldn't keep my skin moisturized....and then it becomes a viscious cycle. If your skin is excessively dry, it will make more oil to moisturize itself... so you have to find a balance and use an oil free moisturizer as well. After trying MANY of the products out there...I've found that Neutragena Fresh Foaming Facial Cleanser (blue bottle w/ white pump) is the most effective and gentle on my face. I also use the Neutragena Oil-Free moisturizer and have NEVER had a problem...even after 6 years of bad cystic acne....it has now almost entirely cleared with this regimen. Good luck! And make sure you have a dermatologist that you really love...it makes all the difference."

What cleanser is best to use with Differin Gel? Right now i have two face washes. One is Clearasil Acne Clearing scrub with 2% Salicylic Acid, the other is called Oxy which has 10% Benzoyl peroxide. Which one should i use? If neither then what would you recommend?

Audra B replied: "neither. proactiv was my savior for acne!"

ElizabethMichele replied: "You won't want to use either since they will both add to the drying effect of the differin (effectively over drying your skin horribly). Just get a regular non-medicated (i.e. non acne) non foaming cleanser, like Dove bar soap or something along those lines."

Juni replied: "neither use proactive thoe!!"

whats better to use differin gel or creme to get rid of scars? my doctor gave me the option to pick which one to use. any suggestions? and how long did it take to go away and how much did u use it? or how good is finacea to use? ps- my skin is really smooth. and i barely have any pimples anymore. so its just really the scars that ive had since november that im trying to get rid of so if you tried anything and you have skin like mine or the same issue. pleaaaase tell me what you did!

zack replied: "i had really bad acne but i was prescribed differin cream 0.1% 3 months ago. my acne is almost gone but i still have red "spots" also know as the scarring of the acne. so i went to the doctors today and she gave me differin GEL and deoxycline. so to answer ur question, im not really sure. i would say either one, just keep on using it. they will go away eventually. if i had to pick, i would suggest the GEL only because its stronger. but if u want ur scarring to go away i suggest going to the doctors and requesting deoxycline. They r pills that fade awat acne scars and kill bacteria. hope this helps! good luck"

Can I use an astringent and Differin together? I've been prescribed Differin 0.3 and I got an astringent tonight and I was wondering if I can use them together. I only apply the Differin at night. Is the Clean&Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent too much for my face? Should I use the astringent in the morning and Differin at night? Help? =) Thanks and God bless y'all! =b

seashel88 replied: "If you've been using the Differin for a bit and it doesn't seem to dry your skin too much then you can use the astringent. I'd apply it in the morning though at least at first. The clean and clear doesn't dry too much, not like the Neutrogena one does. Personally, I hate Differin because it dried my skin and never helped my acne. I took to using it only as a spot treatment to dry an existing pimple. Whatever you do it's still important to use some kind of moisturizer. I don't know if they still have it but clean and clear used to make an oil controlling lotion that was great."
