I did no extra exercise, and didn't officially join Weightwatchers, pay anything or attend their meetings. You need the little calculator thing that calculates how many points each food/drink item is by the calories and saturated fat.
But I've also seen a programme that basically says - and I agree with this - that your body is designed to naturally maintain a certain weight, and if that happens to be bigger than 'average' no amount of sensible dieting will get you thinner, and vice versa - if you're naturally skinny, you can't eat yourself fat. So just love the way you're supposed to be!"
Lisa-Marie replied: "I have pcos & have only just started to drop the weight but I can tell you this: ignore crash diets & fad pills, they will only work on the short term (if that!).
The ONLY way to lose weight with pcos in through strenuous, low impact exercise for a minimum of 45 minutes a day. Things like running, cycling & swimming are all low impact so you won't bulk up (because pcos affects your testosterone levels using weights can make you gain weight rather than lose it)
However, you should expect an average of 0.5 kg a week of weight loss in the first 6 months. After that aim for around 1.0 kg."

yfalmartin replied: "I was on Met for 3 months from September to December last year before I stopped taking it. I did start to lose weight in the beginning and was thrilled, and then I started gaining, even though I was eating correctly. The medicine also gave me horrendous acne in addition to the gastrointestinal problems. I decided it wasn't the medicine for me and stopped taking it. When I stopped, I had withdraw symptoms (chills/sweats, headaches, nausea).
Every person is different though. Some women love Met and swear by it. You should check out this site if you haven't done so already. The women are very supportive there and you can find answers to any of your questions:. There's even a whole section just about Metformin!"
Dose anyone have any weight loss success stories? I am in the process of losing weight after being pregnant, and having a c-section. I actually gained most of my weight before I got pregnant. I had a hard time getting pregnant. I had PCOS, and some hormone problems that made me pack on the pounds, on top of taking meds to help with those problems, the meds I had to take caused weight gain. During my pregnancy I only gained about 35 pounds, which my doctor told me was the healthy amount to gain. Before all these problems came up I was used to being very thin. I always felt like I was very pretty, and I had a lot of confidence. I still think I’m pretty; I just want to lose weight. Also after I get my weight off I will be buying a completely new wardrobe, and makeup. So that gives me something to really look forward to, and makes me want to get it off that much more. I would love to hear some of your weight lose success stories, or makeover succes stories. Or if you have any kind of tips what so ever.
Tiff replied: "Weight Watchers worked so well for me. I didn't even go the meetings, wasn't weighed by them, etc., I just went, got the initial information on how the point system works and did it.
It teaches you how to eat well and lose weight doing it instead of restricting your calorie intake so much that you're hungry all the time and unhealthy. With Weight Watchers, it was really easy to lose weight and KEEP it off! After about two months, I had lost about 25 lbs. and everyone was telling me how wonderful I looked."
kiwo78 replied: "Honestly Weight Watches is a great program, and they offer support if you need it. My husband has used the program and lost 40lbs, I used it and lost 15 lbs, my bf used it and she lost 45lbs. I have been working out since I had my baby, but I am going to go back onto weight watchers, it gives results, and it is easy to follow, basically it teaches you portion control, and how to eat healthier."

Things that work for me:
Breakfast:
steel cut oats,1/4 c cooked until done also called Scottish oats, you can get them at Trader Joe's, or any health food section.
walnuts,10 or so halves, blue berries, ground flax seed, 2 T, some brown sugar . skim milk
Lunch
1 c. green spinach, olive oil for dressing, some olives, a carrot sliced, one tomato, or some cottage cheese and fresh fruit.
Dinner
a few oz. fish, chicken or other lean meat, a green veggie, and a very tiny salad... again, olive oil, not man made dressings..
Eliminate breads, candy, brownies, and the other stuff you and I all love. Snack on celery. You can easily loose a pound or two a week. Just remember, it didn't take you just two months to pack in on, it will be longer than two months to get rid of it... And the exercise... walk at least 20 min every day....even if it is just around your neighborhood pushing your baby with you. boring??? Oh, yes. If you go to a gym, walk or use the elliptical strider or the tread mill for 15 minimum, and at least 3 times a week. then use some of the machines for toning your tummy, and muscles.
Hope this helps."
PCOS and weight loss....? I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and have been told that it is VERY hard to lose weight due to the insulin resistance that accompanies PCOS...I need to lose about 80-100 lbs with in 9 months...has anyone had any success with losing weight with PCOS and insulin resistance? How did you do it? How much weight did you lose in what amount of time... ALL of your advice will be helpful. Thank you
helpplease replied: "Well i was diagnosed with PCOS about 1 year ago. My first piece of advice is to check out the site
There is a wealth of information there and millions of women with PCOS who can help you.
Are you taking metformin? That is a pretty standard medication for the IR and it often helps with weight loss. Why do you need to lose so much weight so fast? I am not saying its impossible, but I will tell you it will be really hard. I have only lost 7 pounds and I have been trying for about 2 months now, but everyone's body works differently. Diet and exercise are the key. But seriously go to that website. If you can't find you answer there then there isn't one!"
brneydgrlie replied: "Several months ago, I also found out I had PCOS. PCOS has a great deal to do with hormone imbalance and insulin resistance. Has your doctor put you on Metformin? Here is what I found out...
Women with PCOS benefit greatly from a low carb diet. Personally, I found South Beach actually worked well for me. But, without using any set 'diet', try this as a guideline - eliminate breads and pastas whenever you can. If you like rice, switch to brown rice, which has higher fiber content, and up your intake of fruits and green veggies. Drink lots of water.
Exercise whenever possible. If you can, walk every day for at least 20 minutes.
Make sure you are taking a good daily multivitamin.
Also, there are some herbal supplements that can be added to your diet. Cinnamon has been found to increase the body's sensitivity to insulin. As little as 1/2 a teaspoon a day can have this effect. This also has the nice side benefit of curbing hunger/sugar cravings. If you do not want to put cinnamon on your food, it can also be found in tablets at a vitamin or health food store.
Licorice can also be found in tablet form. Studies have found that over time, licorice can help decrease the body's production of androgen.
I have done what I am telling you here, and lost 60 lbs. in about 7 months. It can be done. Don't give up hope!
Good luck!"
