What is difference between Carnintine? • Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC); L-Acetyl-Carnitine (LAC); L-Carnitine; Propionyl L-Carnitine Which one if any is best for COPD? Interesting and informative oldtimek. I was curious if anyone you know has benefited from one of these. My husband has been recommended a drug that he says is $1700. to $2000. a month

oldtimekid2 replied: "There are a few different forms of the same amino acid. -Acetyl-L-Carnitine is the form that's good for brain health and gives energy to the brain. -L-Acetyl-Carnitine is likely a marketing twist to make it look different than ALC... but it would have to be the same. Now, if you mean N-Acetyl-Cysteine or N-Acetyl Carnosine, those are entirely different products. -L-Carnitine is the base amino acid that helps your body convert fat into energy. Many people use it for weight loss, weight lifting, cardiovascular health, and even heart health (it helps your body create ATP, which helps with heart health among other things). -Propionyl L-Carnitine is the form that is found in the highest concentrations in the heart tissue itself, so it helps most directly for heart health, but also has lesser impacts on other parts of the body. If you have COPD, I would discuss it with a doctor, but the regular L-Carnitine is most centered around cardiovascular health (which includes the lungs) and PLC is basically right behind that... but it probably wouldn't be enough on it's own and you may need forced oxygen (eg. a CPAP machine) or other options. Good luck and I hope I helped! [edit]: To reply to your added info, I know there are some prescription drugs that are based on natural supplements like this as well. I've even heard of a prescription Fish Oil that is a few hundred dollars a month... the same stuff you would get doubling up on a drug store Fish Oil for 100 times the price. Just because it's prescription doesn't mean it's better for you or going to help more... it's just something they can patent and charge more for it. I'd do research behind something like that before filling it ;-)"

A good vitamin supplement? With the following Propionyl-L-Carnitine 500mg Magnesium 300mg Taurine 2g C o Q 10 ...90-200 mg Arginine 5 g Hawthorn 80-300 mgs Thanks and Where can I find them! God Bless and Have a great day!

oldtimekid replied: "Well, most of those are common products that are available in many places. You can get all of those at The Taurine and Arginine are rather high doses, though. Normally, Taurine is normally in a 500 mg dose. With Arginine, it is more variable depending on a few factors... it can be 1,000 mg per day, or you can take up to 20,000 mg per day, but that's normally only weight lifters that do that, and the higher doses tend to give diarrhea. If you need a higher dose of Arginine, you'll probably want to get SW1032 (Super Strength L-Arginine) because it's 900 mg per capsule. Also, for the Propionly-L-Carnitine, you'll want to look for SWU367 (Glycine Propionyl-L-Carnitine; GPLC)."
