Reglan In Children Facts in Q&A
Has anyone given their 3month old child Reglan and Zantac? My son vomits frequently after feedings.. I know I am not over feeding him and I am noticing he isnt holding the formula I am giving him in which is Enfamil Lactose Free... Any ideas.! HELP I am stressing.! The doctor prescribed this to my son due to his vomitting...

momtojullex replied: "Reglan is used to combat nausea during chemotherapy... or to boost breastmilk supply. Never heard of it being used for reflux. My SIL did use Zantac for her daughter and it helped tremendously!"

ashlea729 replied: "My son took them both. They worked pretty well. I don't remember one being better than the other. Make sure you get the generic. My son was on metoclopramide, the generic of Reglan, and it was much cheaper than Zantac."

I'd rather be at the beach replied: "My son was on Zantac because of reflux, he turned out to have diet issues. Maybe try a soy formula -- he might have a milk allergy. And if he has problems with soy AND milk there's a special formula for that too."

gillie replied: "if the doctor has prescribed it then it should be ok i had a girl who threw up every feed this went on til she was 18months due to slack stomach muscle it was somewhat horrendous couldnt take her anywhere without milk feeds gushing out her mouth very scarey yet she put weight on dont know how but shes 7 years now and eats very well now no problems at all ,good luck"

crazypammysue replied: "My second daughter has been on Zantac since she was 3 days old. I have an 11 year old daughter and a 14 year old niece who were also on Zantac as babies. The 14 year old was also on Reglan as a small child, but our doc says they don't typically use it unless Zantac doesn't work well. Has the doc ever told you to put cereal in his formula? It makes it heavier and better able to be kept down. Enfamil now makes a formula with the cereal already added (Enfamil AR). Are you keeping him upright for at least 30 minutes after each feeding? This does not include sitting up in a car seat which puts a lot of pressure on the baby's belly. Do you have one end of his bed raised slightly? Are you burping (attempting to) after every ounce? These are all tools for dealing with a reflux baby. Good luck!"

Dominic's Mommy replied: "my son had horrible GERD when he was born, and was prescribed to Zantac, after a few months I weaned him off of it, and he hasn't had bad reflux since! It worked great, and he was on Enfamil Gentlease which seemed to settle well in his stomach! Your baby will be fine. my pediatrician said most babies grow out of it by their first birthday, it worked wonders for mine! Good luck!!"

jenn replied: "my son was on axid which is an acid reflex medicine and it worked great. he was very fussy and up all night so i am thankful he was put on that. if try soy it might help but it also can make him constipated that's what it did to my son. i used parents choice gentle on the stomach and it worked great. also when you feed him hold him upright for 15-20 min if you lay flat that can make the reflex worse. if you do not want to use the medicine you can also try putting a teaspoon of cereal in a bottle that helped with my daughters acid reflex she was never put on medicine that worked for her. all depends on what you want to do. don't stress because it will pass. my son is 7 months and he is not on medicine any more and is a really good baby. good luck and do what you feel is best for your baby."

Have any of youre children suffered with GERDS? If soo please tel me what i can do to help my son...the doctor has given him zantac and a med called reglan to hold the food down..but its not working..Ive told them this..they said the med take time..which is understandable..but i just want to know if there is anything at home i can do to help him..I feel sooo sorry for him it breaks my heart...he was 7lbs 12ozs when he was born and gained up to 8'5 at his 2wk but now..he is only 7'8 and he is a mth old...Please help..like i said i do everything the doctors say.. If youre child has not suffered with this please do not reply...and please no negitive comments...

ako2 replied: "maybe you should burp him more after feeding or at least keep his head elevated, higher than the stomach... also...one cause of babies throwing up is overfeeding...try giving him a little at a time...then in try to observe if he can take more the following feed... i am not a doctor but these are some suggestions that i asked my friend who's baby was constantly throwing up after almost every feed... hope this helps... also...try asking your doctor for a different milk formula...nowadays, they have something specially for these types of babies..."

Rachel M replied: "my aunt had this problem with her daughter she would give her a little bit of whole milk (it settles it down a little) Lay him in his car seat or in a swing so he is at a 45* angle it will help keep it down"

jennifer c replied: "Bless his little heart. I have never known anyone to have a baby with this. I know my dad has it and once he eats he has to stay up for a few hours or he can't sleep. I know you said not to respond if I didn't have an infant with this, but... have you tried to have him sleeping upright, like maybe in his swing? If you just feed him after he wakes up. Gosh, this would be so hard because he is so tiny. And being a baby you have to be so careful what to feed him. I read something about lemonaid. But definatly ask your doctor before you give him anything. I am praying for you."

chuckie411 replied: "My son threw up everytime I nursed him. It got so bad that I stopped dressing the both of us because it was a waste of time. He wore his diapers, I wore underwear. he cried all day, and he and I were miserable. Today, he is an eight year old boy who is happy and healthy. He still avoids certain foods, and he gets tummy aches once in a while. I never though he would grow out of it, but he did. My advice to you is to try and be patient, but if you feel your son is in danger, keep going back to the doctor. He needs to be hydrated and nourished, and if it takes you being a "bother" to the doctor, so what? YOu and the baby should be comfortable with the treatment."

lisaslife02 replied: "yes my lil girl has the same thing she is now 4 Mons on Sept 11! but let me tell you its hard! she was on raglan to but i stop giving it to her and she started off on zantac when she went to her first doc visit after being born! the reason i am not giving her any thing at this time is cause nothing is working for her and i felt like i was just giving her meds for no reason and it would make her act weird not her self and she would not play and just sleep!so she is not on any thing for it now! but just be open about it! but i think the meds work but makes the baby act weird! my Lil girl took zantac for 3 weeks nothing! then reglan for Mons and nothing so i guess it diff for diff kids! hope i have help!"

Jen replied: "If you are not already, keep him upright as much as possible. Have him sleep in an upright position (swing, bouncy chair). Also, make sure he is upright for at least 30 mins after a feeding. He should grow out of it somewhere between the 3-6 mth mark so just be patient and know that an end is in sight."

qteepie999 replied: "BEEN THERE!! My son was in the childrens hospital for 1 week and the discovered he hade severe GERD. DO NOT PUT HIM IN A SWING.... This causes the reflux to be worse because of the motion. Continue on the Zantac but get his ears checked. I know it sounds weird, but after 2 months of the doctors telling me to "let the meds work" I took him to another Dr. who told me to go to a ear Dr. Ended up he had severe ear infection from birth which they just recently found out has a DIRECT link to Gerd... He had tubes put in at 3 months and was FINE ever since surgery.. No more problems, Just think about taking him in. I hate to see any baby suffer this way. I hate to see u suffer too, I know how terrible it is.. Good Luck to you and keep me posted."

satans_queen replied: "Is your baby breast or formula fed?"

Ms. Paul replied: "I work in NICU and this is one of the most frustrating problems with infants. Boys are affected 3 times more than girls. You can try several different things, maybe one will work. Try feeding more frequent smaller feedings. Try elevating the head of his bed slightly. You can also try thickening his feedings. We use to use rice cereal but recently started using Thick It. You can get it at any pharmacy. Just use a sprinkle, as it gets very thick. If he is breast feed, burp often. There is also special formula for GER on the market. Also he may need a higher calorie formula, it requires less volume but provides enough calories to gain weight. Reglan may or may not work. Previcid will help with the irritation of the esophagus. You might also suggest a pH study to see how severe and often this happens. Last resort is surgery. It's called a fundoplycation. They actually wrap the esophagus around the trachea to prevent GER. Hope this helps...But it is true he will grow out of it. Usually by 10 pounds. But if he is not gaining weight it is cause for concern."

How do I ensure that I successfully breastfeed this time around? I am pregnant with baby number 3 ..I successfully breastfed my first child but the second one I had no milk! I am wondering should I take reglan weeks before I have the baby ..has anyone else had this happen to them...I tryed for 2 months and worked with a lactation consultant but no matter what my milk was extremely low while the first child I had an extremely abundant supply I was under extreme stress because of family issues and many other things..wow, I didn't know that would cause the low supply though

amosunknown replied: "I bet your body is super stress sensitive, thats the biggest thing with low milk production. Since you were fine with your first, yet not so much with the added stress of the second it makes sense. Talk with your OB, they can work with you to do all possible to get your supply going. The biggest thing is prenatals, water, and relaxation. Your body wont produce unless it has enough of everything. You might consider talking with an accupuncturist, i know it sounds asinine, but they can do wonderous things, including helping with issues like this."

mystic_eye_cda replied: "Reglan is not approved for use during pregnancy, I looked it up ages ago because I am breastfeeding and pregnant. I would just eat well and take care of yourself, I think that is all you can really do."

becky h replied: "My advice is the old Nike saying - "Just Do It!" Every baby/breastfeeding experience is different. I have had 4 kids, and breastfed all at varying lengths of time. My first fed well, but I chose to wean her at 6 months. My second had health problems and wound up bottle fed. My third was a nursing champ for 2 years! My recent baby, now 9 months old, nursed well, but my supply was low. I, too have had lots of stressors in my life this past year which affected my milk supply. I began supplementing her with formula, but she preferred nursing! I just feed her when she's hungry, always offering her the breast first, and let her nurse until she's full. I'm proud to say that after two months of doing this, she exclusively breastfeeds and now is full in 30 min. or less instead of an hour. Keep trying and try to relax. Do something that makes you comfortable and drink lots of water/eat enough healthy food. Do what works for you and ignore all the junk that old ladies and childless people might tell you. Also, if the baby prefers one breast over the other, and wants that side even though it's not the "right" one to start them on, give it to him/her anyway! The experts even tell you that this is okay to do. Your breasts will adjust and your milk supply will increase if baby is happy and nursing well. If things still don't work out and you MUST formula feed, it's not the end of the world, and at least you tried. Baby's health and happiness are most important (as well as Mom's sanity). Good luck!"

my almost 8 month old has acid reflux really bad and yesterday the dr. put her on Reglan to help.? The dr. put her on that, has anyone elses children been on that and if they had, I have already noticed she acts more tired and sleepy than usual. if your children was on this, did it make them sleep more. she takes 1ml three times a day

Xaivier came 11/1/08 replied: "my son was on both reglan and zantac...the reglan didnt help him so she up the dose on the zantac and he's doing better...he's 6.5 months old now..he's been on zantac since he was 4wks old but i give him the medicin once a week and he doesnt spit up as much he'll be 7months on the 1st"

Mandi K replied: "My daughter has reflux too, and has since birth (she is 6 months old now) but she is on Zantac. It doesn't seem to make her sleepier though, although sometimes I wish it would :) Have you read the side effects from her medicine? Maybe check & see if that is a side effect, and if not, just call into the pharmacy or your pediatrician's office and just ask about it. Good luck!"

lilloric replied: "there's a lawsuit linked to reglan right now i find it hard to believe a doctor would prescribe it for a baby. maybe you might want to think about changing doctors =&startPage=1&rlz=1I7GGLL_en"

◄♥RN♥► replied: "a common side effect in infants is drowsiness; i would wait a week or two and see if it clears on it's on, most of the time the body gets used to it and it no longer bothers them.....if it's still a prob a couple/few weeks down the road u can bring it up to the doc and see if they want to change meds.."

angedelapitie replied: "I don't know about Reglan and what it is supposed to do, but I have heard about the lawsuit somoene else mentioned so I dont' know if I would use it unless it was an extremem emergency. My daughter has really bad acid reflux too. She had to be hospitalized b/c she couldn't keep anything down and was loosing wieght. Since she left the hospitla she has had rice cereal mixed in her bottles and she takes Zantac 1 ml twice a day. It doens't make her sleepy. Zantac just reduces acid in the stomach so that it doens't hurt when they do throw up. The cereal was used to thicken the formula to help it stay down. Call the pharmacist or Dr and ask if drowsiness is supposedto be a side effect. I would probably talk to doc about changing meds anyway b/c of the lawsuit."

Kristen replied: "how old was your child when you put her on cereal and how much are you giving her? I have a 27 day old daughter and she's all of a sudden throwing everything up and it smells very acidic. any advise/suggestions would be much appreciated!"

infants with GERD? and using reglan? my son was put on the generic version of reglan and i gave hime two doses, i noticed a complete 180 in personality, he normally is happy, content, loves to play and then with one dose and worsened with the second to a baby that cries ALL the time. have any parents had experience with this and could help me to help my child he is 3 1/2, i cut down feedings to 2 oz every two hours, which did help, but he is constantly hungary this is a boy that could eat 6 oz every 2 hours if i let him, he throws all of it back up, it's not just a little bit, i can actually cup it in my hands and it will overflow 3 1/2 months that is he really was a GOOD baby, people couldn't believ ehis demenor when they meet him. he goes to any one, is always smiling, except when he has to go to bed which he puts up the funniest fight in the world, but he never cried. he didn't even cry when he woke up and wanted feed, even when he had projectile vomit, he would just laugh( this is not joke) i really think that he did it on purpose :P

Mina222 replied: "reflux drugs can take a few weeks to start fully working, its way too early to make a judgement just yet.. my son was on a few different ones until we found what helped, but to be honest, he never was that perfect happy baby i'm sure you are longing to have.. it just was bareable - better. well until they grow up and outgrow it anyway!"

starfire978 replied: "Personally I would consider also taking him to a children hospital and have their gastro intestinal specialist take a look at him. My son would do the same thing with his formula projectile everywhere with every feeding no matter how I tried to limit and burp him. His pediatrician told me give him the meds and take him home. When I took him in to the hospital they took one look at him and went over his symptoms and told me change his formula to neutramagin.... Cured the vomiting in 2 days. Mind you every child is different and alot of them it is just reflux but it could also be an allergic reaction to something in the formula/breastmilk espesially if you have a family history of food allergies. Good luck and I hope it clears up soon!"

Im 10 weeks pregnant and I still have morning sickness. When will it end? My morning sickness isn't that bad as it was a few weeks ago. I can actually keep liquids down now. My doctor put me on Reglan and that helps a little. This is my first child and I just wanted to know am I almost done with the sickness or do I have much longer to go. I vomit about 2 or three times a day and I hate it. I just want this part to be over. Thank you so much for your answers.

Vr replied: "Hopefully you are luckier than I was, I had morning sickness until I was 15 weeks pregnant. Some women go their whole pregnancies with it (not many though, so don't worry!!). You should be feeling better in a few weeks, hopefully sooner than that."

jcox replied: "All pregnancies are different. With my first daughter I had morning sickness including vomitting for the first four months. I would say you might have another six weeks or so of this unfortunetly, but there is no way to know. Some women are not sick at all and with some it lasts the whole pregnancy. The majority of morning sickness is better by twelve weeks though."

Tina G replied: "There is no way to be sure when it "will end" some women have sickness throughout their entire pregnancies, my sister only had it when she ate apples, or drank apple juice. My bff had morning sickness the fist 3 months, another friend of mine didn't get it at all, and another one of my friends had morning sickness so bad she was hooked up to an IV throughout her entire pregnancy. It depends on the person I guess. No one person has the same experience."

Victoria C replied: "well im 7 months prego and i still have morning sickness for some women it last through out the whole pregnancy ask your doc about the shot for nausea thats what im getting done"

cathrl69 replied: "With any luck it should start getting better around 12 weeks. It doesn't for everyone, but that's the most common time."

Timid Women Rarely Make History replied: "Well the fact that it's getting better however very slowly is good. Every woman's pregnancy experience is different. So you can't go by what we experienced and think it will be the same for you. If you're still having trouble eating. I would suggest you see your doctor again. And either up the dosage or try something else."

Greengirll replied: "Hopefully soon. For most women I know it ended after the first trimester. For me I still have it."

Baby Girl! Due May 18th! replied: "Oh i'm so sorry!! I had the worst all day sickness ever! It hit me at 7 weeks on the dot and did not stop until 12-13 weeks. It was so bad that I was in the hospital for 3 days. But as soon as I hit my 2nd trimester, it was like "wow! I feel great!!" So hang in there. Most of the time it stops at the 2nd trimester. But some are not so lucky. :( Good luck and congrats! :)"

lilmissdisorganised replied: "I stopped actually throwing up around 12 weeks, but was still nauseus until about 15 weeks, after which I finally felt able to leave the house on my own again without worrying."

Baby#1 in the oven! replied: "I didn't get over it until I was about 14weeks and I was completely good to go when i was about 16 weeks now I have other pains haha"

Sarah B replied: "Every person is different, every pregnancy is different. I wish you the best! For me, I was sick until I was 30 weeks along. However I was still able to keep food down and gained 27 pounds by that time! I had dry heaves every morning and nausea that lasted throughout the day. Honestly, It normally doesn't usually last that long for most women. Hopefully you'll be more around the average range... about 12-14 weeks. Good luck! I wish you the best,.... We're expecting our first baby -a girl!- any day. Well, I'm due on Jan 10th- but hopefully she'll be early. :o) Take care!"

Babygirl replied: "I am 10 weeks too and having the same problem I asked my doctor and he told me that it should subside at the end of my first trimester. It sucks because I cannot keep anything down. I feel for you but your not alone."

Will I make enough milk? I have one 4 month old child. I haven't been able to make enough milk for him (not for lack of trying). I've tried everything..pumping, Reglan, fennelgeek, nursing vacations, lots of water, oatmeal, etc. I've always had to supplement with a little bit of formula because he isn't gaining weight well and the doctor and I were worried. My question-if I have another child will I be able to make enough milk next time? Has anyone had experience with this? It would be nice not to have to supplement with any formula.

Kit Kat replied: "Ask your doctor"

VinceYoung replied: "whats wrong with formula? dont wanna pay for it?"

Lily T replied: "well if your not making wenough milk, then just buy some why waste your money on a cow when milks only like 2 bucks a gallon"

ipink replied: "Yes that happened to me with my baby goat... we supplied it with another goat's milk... the poor baby goat.. I'm sad to say he passed away"

ashli m replied: "My pastor's wife had the same trouble with her first child (actually, second child, but the first one miscarried, and no milk was involved). She eventually gave up and went to formula exclusively. With her second and third babies, she had no problems whatsoever. Contact the LLL (LaLeche League) for more information."

mac replied: "Here's a trick I used when I was nursing-- every time I would nurse, I would only use ONE BREAST- and at the same time, I would use a breast pump to empty the other breast- by doing that, I doubled my output because the baby's sucking is what stimulates your milk production--which a machine really doesn't duplicate--and then the next feeding switch breasts.....remember, no caffeine to drink.........and drink at least 10 glasses of water a day........good luck and congratulations on the birth of your little one..........at 4 months, the doc should have started him/her on some cereal by now to help supplement the milk.........and the pumped milk you can freeze so you don't need to buy formula......that's what I did, my sister died from a formula allergy so I never gave either one of my daughters formula."

pgnprincess1212 replied: "Did you try Fenugreek along with Blessed Thistle? I had the same problem and the both together worked wonders. I was a suggestion given to me by the Le Leche League. Don't beat yourself up over it. Any milk he gets from you is great, but there is nothing wrong with supplementing with formula!"

Gemma & Helix's mama replied: "ITS REALLY HARD TO SAY EITHER WAY..I NURSED MY FIRST BORN WITH ABSOLUTE NO TROUBLES...SO PLANNED ON DOING SO FO RTHE SECOND AND IT JUST"

Tanya replied: "not personally... but it is possible most, if not all mothers who breastfeed more than one child have different experiences with each. just like your pregnancies are different. baby's personality, physiology will be different your breasts will be different will you be able to exclusively nurse? there's no way to answer that question for sure... but is it at least possible for that to happen - absolutely YES :)"

Susan replied: "You won't necessarily have a problem the next time. Your situation this time might even improve -- a friend of mine had the same problem at first and had to supplement with formula for a while, but her milk supply eventually increased. In the meantime, it's very important that you take your doctor's advice, supplement with formula, and carefully monitor baby's weight. I can't believe some of the idiots that have posted answers here. They are nasty morons. Don't let their obnoxious answers upset you."

liv t replied: "I have hear of women who have troubles with the first and non with the second, talk to the le leche group and also find a lactation consultant, they are full of info. I drank a tea this time for nursing moms, it worked well for me, there are several different kinds, I like Yogi tea. I am also sorry that people who don't belong in this section posted here, that was really rude."

No Longer Dizzy replied: "The problem was caused by supplementing with formula. Next time, instead of giving formula, just put your child on the breast more frequently, to stimulate milk. Giving formula cuts down your milk supply."

Can anyone help me get back on track for breastfeeding? I have 3 children and successfully breastfed the 1st two without any problems for 10 months each. I have a 3 1/2 month old who became very sleepy and didn't demand feedings often, within one week, he had lost weight and landed in the hospital, over the holidays when the docs weren't around. In the hospital the REQUIRED he be bottle fed, so I pumped and pumped and pumped, but my milk supply kept declining...from stress I am sure. Anyhow they put me on Reglan to help because I was down to pumping only 1/2-1 ounce per session every 3 hours. In addition my son refused to nurse now. I have tried fenugreek, reglan, mother's milk tea, adequate water, nutrition and sleep, the SNS (which doesn't sem to help), I am pumping every 2-3 hours round the clock, nursing baby while he's sleepy(which sorta works) and I can still only pump 2 ounces in 3 hours. I am desperate to get back on track. Please is there anything more I can do? He's my last baby and I don't want such a beautiful thing to end in such a sad way.

Mary Z replied: "If your baby is thriving on formula then I would move on."

Charlie replied: "It sounds like you have done your very best and tried everything. I worked as an R.N. with newborns for over 25 years ...and occasionally saw babies that simply would not breast feed...and moms who could not keep up the supply no matter how hard they tried. Sometimes you just need to accept what you cannot change. You CAN adjust the way you think about it...this baby is just different. your "success" or value as a mother does not hang on whether or not this baby breast feeds. You can have a close and unique expedience with this baby...and probably a MORE successful experience with this baby...if you drop all the stress of trying to MAKE something happen that just is not going to happen. You will not know why circumstances are different this time, but they just are. Relax, let it go...and don't consider this "sad'...just different."

Melissa B replied: "I can relate to your problem! I also tried everything for my 9 month old but, found that Reglan (its generic version) did work for me. I was taking it over a 12 day cycle. (Day 1-7am, Day 2-7am and 7pm, Days 3 thru 10- 7am, 2pm and 7pm, then I decreased to ween off). This actually picked my milk back up but, I had terrible side effects after 3 days so I had to stop taking it today. I also tried the Fenugreek pills and the tea's, 3 pills a day, I saw no change at all with these herbal methods. The teas did relax me but, that was about it. I also tried to nurse as much as possible and pump all night long. I had to resort to introducing Emfamil Lipid with what little breast milk I am pumping to keep him going at this point. My mother is starting this with him today, he seems to be okay with this transition so far. I know this does have the answer for you but, I hope that knowing you are not alone takes some of the stress off."

Zion replied: "I'm sorry you're going through this :( What kind of pump do you use? consider switching--I find that even my Medela Pump in style electric pump(it gets recommended a lot) doesn't work as well when I use it all the time. I get better results when I switch between that one and my manual pump(Medela Harmony) for some reason; as opposed to using one all the time. I also find that certain places are better for pumping. The best place for me is in the bathroom sitting on the toilet; or in the car. I find in these places I get up to 6 oz while in other places I usually get only 2. Try experimenting a bit and you might find your magic spot. I'm sure you already know that stress is terrible for pumping. Just try the best you can to be calm and relaxed; not hungry or thirsty or uncomfortable or needing to go to the restroom when you pump. Have the baby within reach so if he starts fussing you can calm him without having to stop pumping."

Meesh replied: "Well done for doing your best in an unsupportive environment. Ask for a lactation consultant and find your local breastfeeding group. Depending where you are - the Le Leche League or the Australian Breastfeeding Association. The SNS feeds would still be stimulating your milk production, this way bottle feeds are reduced, it is easier for your baby to suck and get extra of your own milk and each time your supply is being stimulated by your babies sucking, so maybe revisit this option. I know a mum who successfully fed her daughter this way for over 12 months. The hospitals insistance on bottlefeeding (how bizarre in this day and age... and infuriating! they obviously haven't heard of the World Health Organisations Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatve) has caused your supply to drop. My daughter was drowsy in her first weeks due to jaundice and the effects of an epidural. I would check if they are using a growth chart for breastfed babies or using the old one based on formula fed infants who can often be overweight. there is one on the ABA site below. The Australian Breastfeeding Association has telephone counselling, online forums, group meetings and a web site with information on increasing your supply and tips for increasing your let down when expressing and many other issues. There is also a section on when it doesn't work and the feelings that may arise. Best wishes whatever the outcome."

mega-mom replied: "oh bummer!! im so sorry! all i can think of is that you're still making milk, and you know, pumping is NOT an accurate measure of your milk supply.. just nurse every feeding, offer a little formula right afterward, keep on the medication too.. make sure your doc is 100% breastfeeding supportive!! oh yea, DEFINITELY pump more than every 3 hrs!! try to pump? nurse every 2 hrs (or even 1 1/2 hrs,) the more the better!!"

Mama Doula replied: "The hospital cannot force you to bottle feed. They can use threats and try to scare you into though, the same thing happened to me. I stuck to my guns and didn't let them push me around. What we did instead was weigh every diaper after each change. They tracked his weight that way. It's not as easy for the nurses but it does work. Contact your local LLL and see if someone can come talk to the head nurse with you. Is your son still in the hospital? And how long did you try any of the things you mentioned? Fenugreek can take up to two weeks to fully work for some women. Reglan can take three days or longer. The nursing teas don't really work for anything other than hydration. You need to be nursing the baby all day. Pump after he feeds. If you are pumping and getting your milk to let down and then you are not completely emptying the breast, you will actualyl DECREASE your supply because your body thinks baby doesn't need that leftover milk. Pumping more is not the answer. Neither is giving up breastfeeding all together. Contact the Lactation consultant at the hospital where your son is. Have them make a room call. If your son is home now, no more bottles. No more pumping. Relax and contact LLL and an LC. You can do this. You are doing a wonderful job."

My Fiancé throws up everyday and no doctor can find out why. Please help!? No doctor can find out why my fiance is throwing up everyday. Conceived our child in Sept 05 and was diagnosed with severe hyperemesis from pregnancy & was prescribed everything you can think of for vomiting such as Prilasec, Phenergan, Benadryl, Zofran, Reglan. Meds were tried in a combination & individually & nothing has worked. After the pregnancy the nausea and vomiting is still present and its been almost a year after birth. She is neaseated 50% of the time. Been to a nutritionist & modifications to diet and portion control, time of meals has been done. Been to gastro-intestinal doctor and they found nothing, doctors done a complete blood work up, ultrasounds & everything is normal, gallstone, pancriatitis, gastric reflux, problems with esophagus and digestive track, fatty liver, kidney problems are not present. She has lost three jobs because of this condition and in the process of filing for social security disability. Please do no suggest anything that has already been listed.

heartzablaze215 replied: "perhaps it it not so much a physical problem, but a mental one. There are cases where a person is under so much strees, or suffering depresion, that they can make themselves physically ill. Maybe she, or both of you, should see a councelor"

Donovan replied: "maybe he should do a total body cleanse. you can buy easy ones at your local health shop/ vitamin shop. some of these cleases only require a pill in the morning and at night. If he was really interested in a body clease he should investigate further. Cleansing is such an amazing healer. To bad the FDA can't approve this as a cure for some diseases!! Side note: for a REALLY good cleanse system have him start with: Parasite Cleanse Colon Cleanse Kidney Cleanse finally- most importantly- a Liver cleanse He could go to a colon cleansing specialist that would cleanse his colon and intestines of potential disease and parasites.... Sure it is a bit uncomfortable and weird, but very good for your health. Hope this helps."

ginger528_2000 replied: "I hear your frustrations and although there is no advice I can give you because I am not a Dr. but if I was your fiance I would do some research on the computer and also go to another Dr. to receive a second opinion from someone who specializes in the stomach area and get a blood test, x-ray, and maybe even a enema so they thoroughlly check this out. It sounds serious does she have any pains in her side maybe she is having an appendics attack. Other than that I don't know what else to suggest although I wish you both the best of luck in this matter."

Jennifer J replied: "I had a very similar problem from the ages of about 15 to 18. After months of taking different pills and changing my diet, I just kinda gave up when nothing helped. It finally pretty much went away on its own, although I occassionally still have flare ups. One thing to note is that during one of my endoscopies my doctor took a biopsy from my small intestine and found that all of my enzyme levels were very low (lactase, sucrase, maltase, etc.). I don't know if the changes in diet were just to cut out fatty foods, spicy foods, and caffeine, but cutting out dairy in case her lactase enzyme is low would be important. I know I didn't give much new information, but I hope I was somewhat helpful."

Alt Healer replied: "Hi Boi 757 Im sure she is feeding the body bad energy for one by focusing on the negative, instead of the positive. Have her read this and do one or all of the ideas below. Here is a list of steps I would do. Just doing one could change her health. ANY Action is the key. Here is what I would do: 1. The 1st thing to do is write a list of all the things your thankful for in life and starting with your health. I want her to write a few paragraphs on how beautiful and healthy she feels every day! This is very important, so you're brain/body starts to heal itself immediately by programing your cells positivity. What you focus on will persist! If you focus on negative then you attract more negative. The same goes for positive. Write out your perfect day in detail on your health. Include your family, health, money, friends, job, ect. I want her to write exactly what you want and be excited when you write it! This is important! Just a change of attitude will start healing her. The body breaks down when people are not balanced and usually because they are not grateful for the things they currently have. Writing is a very powerful tool and take this serious. Place it where you can see it and FEEL the love and power in the letter and the energy surrounding you. 2. Are you drinking a gallon of distilled water a day? I do this daily and add some lemon to it (mornings) because it stimulates the liver which creates more bile for healing and even helps lose weight. I cannot stress enough the importance of drinking water. This is the most important physical item we americans dont understand (or act ignorant about). Just by doing this can change everything! 3. You need to get a juicer (powerjuicer.com has the best value) right away. You need to be juicing for nutrition and on a juice fast for 7 days or More. Healing the body starts with feeding good enzymes and this is the 1st step with nutrition. There is a great program on healmarketplace.com called "The Incurables" and is a 30-45 day program. The program also consists of doing a colon, liver, and kidney cleanses to help the organs get back to their true selves, so they can help heal the body. Ridding of toxins is the key and these main organs know how to do that. When you let the body rest from digesting processed foods and instead feed it nutrition: "The body will heal itself, all it needs is some assistance". This is what you need to do to truely get back to your healthy self. 4. Pain issues are another sign the body is unbalanced. Hydrotherapy can start the healing very quickly. This process has been around for thousands of years and can heal exclusively if done consisently. Using hot and cold water to stimulate new blood cells in the diseased areas of the body. Another idea for pain is Deep tissue oil from healmarketplace.com. I have people raving about this herbal concoction all the time. 5. You need yourself metally and emotionaly balanced as I mentioned in the 1st paragraph. Do you live with emotions on your sleeve? Feeling guilty, stressed just because, depressed, ect. You must find the love in the world and it's everywhere. We are all connected and be appreciative of all the positive and negative situations in your life. Even the so called negatives are teaching our souls to act and be sure to look for the good in everything. 6. Energy healing is very beneficial. From Pranic to Reiki are very effective on moving diseased energy out of the body. Everything is made up of energy (even scientists agree to this), so why cant we change out energy to be healthy consistantly. I know this is probably overwelming info here, but reaching out to people is a great step on deciding you've been sick long enough and you're ready to take control of your life/health. Do something different (acupunture, chiro, swimming, or run around the block naked!). Change your patterns and the body will start to heal. Be grateful for what you have in life and you'll have more of it. Best of health to you"

Stephanie H replied: "Sorry to hear about what your poor fiancee is going through. I am going out on a limb here but maybe the hormone change from pregnancy some how upset her balance. Maybe she should start on some oral birth control pills to get a more stable level. This is just a random thought. You might want to explore complementary and alternative medicine techniques like biofeedback, acupuncture, and such. You also might want to consider a stress therapist or psychologist. There is a strong connection between the mind and body. Good luck please extend my sincerest sympathies to your fiance."

Chris replied: "In the course of her doctor visits, has the word "gastroparesis" ever come about? If not, I would bring it up to her Primary Care Physician and especially to her GI Specialist. Gastroparesis is a condition where the stomach takes a really long to empty. Ask for a "Gastric Emptying Scan" to be performed. It tests how long a food item stays in the stomach before passing through to the intestinal tract, and will either confirm or deny the gastroparesis diagnosis."

My daughter for a long time now has had problems keeping her food down!? She will eat and be fine and all of a sudden get awful nausea and bend over and just throw up everywhere. she doesn't do this 100% of the time but it happens a lot and more when she is in her monthly period than any other time. We have had her checked for gallbladder, they have run the light down her and dr. says her stomach is fine, but there has to be something wrong. Dr. puts her on Reglan and this stops the vomiting her food up but she still feels like she needs to but the medicine won't let her. Also my daughter is now 36 now with 4 children. Can anyone help? Has anyone had a situation like this one? She does have a lot of stress with raising 4 children and also we lost her brother 5 years ago and that too is stress. Sometimes she's fine but other times it's bad, bad. Just the last 2 months has had spells of being fine after she eats and then if she bends over she will get very nauseas and throw up everything so suddenly. There are times where she is sick, so sick for several hours and then there are times when she just throws up just once and then she ok. Has anyone faced anything like this, we need help!

Amusement replied: "hi, i have never heard of this before... but it sounds like the doctor has not found what is wrong with her... I have a friend... and she was having lots of problems.. and she kept going to the same doc and they couldn't find out what was wrong with her... until they finally went to another doctor.. and they found out what was wrong with her.. and it was serious..they put her on a strict diet and she is doing wrong... what did the trick for my friend was that she said it feels like there is a fire in her stomach... and that other doctor knew right off what was wrong with her... hope things go well for her.."

Becka N replied: "Stress could be contributing to the problem, if not causing it. She could have an ulcer, or a hernia. The same thing happens to my mom(who is also very stressed alot) and the doctor put her on Nexium, I think is what it's called. It helps with acid in the stomch. If she doesn't take it she gets like your daughter. Maybe get a second opinion from another doctor because as I have found out the last couple months, some doctors are just plain awful. The second opinion should put your mind at ease and hopefully offer up some better solutions for her problem. Good luck!"

Maddox1527 replied: "I actually used to experience the same thing and it was really bad when i was on my period each month. I would just throw up unexpectedly and be in terrible pain. Mine was a stress related issue that was spurred on by the migraines i got when I would start my period each month. Does she have headaches with her problem? I asked around from a few doctors and said it could be indometreosis, which is pretty much bleeding outside the uterus. but that wasn't the case. eventually i found ways to relieve some stress in my life and things got better. Maybe you can suggest ways for her to relax more"
