Smoking Pot With Asthma in Answers
What would happen if somebody with bad asthma smoked pot for the first time? I have asthma, but I'm not interested in smoking pot. I'm just curious with what would happen. I would never try weed, I just don't see the need for it.

casdave2001 replied: "Your lungs are fragile enough without putting a lot of irritants in them. Weed might be tempting to try but you'd be risking your life or future by trying it. Don't get caught in the trap of the rationalization that it's "just one time". That phrase has lead to more grief than either of us could know about. You are an apparently bright young woman with her whole life ahead of her. The absolute best high you can imagine is good health. God bless and help you make the right decision."

James S replied: "Smoke is smoke. It doesn't matter if it is cigarette smoke, marijuana smoke, burning tires, or a house on fire. It is still smoke and it irritates the lungs of normal healthy people very badly sometimes. I have asthma and I can't stand smoke of any sort for more than a few minutes without having to rescue myself (Albuterol/Salbutamol rescue inhaler). Does your boyfriend have some sort of death wish or drug addiction? He should know that inhaling smoke of any sort can cause an asthma attack that may be fatal. See if he goes to an asthma clinic and go with him next time. If not, see if you can talk him into going to an asthma clinic. He will need a referral from his primary care physician for entry into an asthma clinic. If his asthma is severe, he should be checked regularly anyways. An asthma clinic will provide him (and you) with information about things that you can and can't do when you have asthma. Asthmatics are by far not disabled by their disease. Even with my asthma, I can run faster to codes than most of the young nurses in my hospital. My asthma is under control (knock on wood) and it doesn't cause me any lifestyle change. In describing his asthma as "really, really bad" do you mean that it isn't under control? Maybe he needs his medications adjusted or to be put on medication? If asthma is out of control, it will be bad no matter what medications a person is on. Out of control asthma can cause permanent scarring of the airways that lead to progressively decreasing lung function. Please get him to see a doctor and be assessed. Things might not seem so bad to him right now, but the prospect of having to wear oxygen in the future or die from asthma (a really stupid way to die, in my opinion, as I have asthma too) might motivate him to take better care of himself. There really is no excuse for poorly controlled asthma in our present time. If you take care of yourself, get educated about your disease state, and can afford medical care/medications, you should be alright. Have him see his doctor or go to his asthma clinic. Smoke of any sort is bad for asthmatics. Please remember that if he doesn't care enough about his body to take care of it, knowing that he has a potentially debilitating and fatal lung disease that is with him for the rest of his life, you can't change it. I think there is a point where calling it a day and moving on to someone who cares about himself and indirectly you, would be a good idea. If I were your boyfriend, I would keep taking care of myself so I could be with you for a long time. If he doesn't care enough about you to do that, then maybe you should find someone who does."

moonraze2000 replied: "i,m a respiratory therapist and i used to work in a college town. i personally put 4 people on ventilators from status asthmaticus attacks, 1 from eating shrimp and 3 from smoking pot. hope that answers your question?"

i dont mean to sound stupid but i heard smoking pot can help people with asthma is that true? a few of my friends have asthma and they smoke but they said it opens up the air ways it that true or are thet just working on killing themselves?

holly replied: "They are deluding themselves"

almighty_malachi replied: "Well, I don't think inhaling any kind of smoke into your lungs will HELP your lungs. It certainly didn't help MY asthma."

Jenni replied: "I have asthma. It was so bad once I was in the hospital for 2 months... Then I started smoking pot. I seriously have not used my inhaler in over 6 months. I feel like a new person. Sure, its not legal...but if it makes my life easier, than who cares?"

aegistrader replied: "thats nonsense i discovered help for my asthma symptoms by accident when i was a child. i came inside breathing hard and needed some water. i was to short to reach the glasses or turn on the water, so i drank the black coffee left in my fathers cup. it tasted terrible, but my breathing felt relief minutes later. i've heard from others about how coffee gave them some relief"

Sherri R replied: "can help pain physical pain and other benfits to marijuana but alot of chemicals in marijuana more than cigarettes so it may make asthma worse."

Joshua H replied: "Apparently, yes! At least according to this site: ' "Taking a hit of marijuana has been known to stop a full blown asthma attack." Personal communication with Dr. Donald Tashkin, December 12, 1989 and December 1, 1997. The use of cannabis for asthmatics goes back thousands of years in literature. American doctors of the last century wrote glowing reports in medical papers that asthma sufferers of the world would "bless" Indian hemp (cannabis) all their lives. 'The inhalation of cannabis smoke causes bronchial dilation lasting up to one hour.'"

How bad is it to smoke pot and have asthma? I have asthma and im going to a party on friday and pot will probably be involved i was wondering how bad it would be if i smoked a joint. This will be my first and last time doing it so how bad will it be to do it just one time. And i have grown out of my asthma alot since i was a kid so its not that bad. P.S im 17

joeno13 replied: "look up miss new jersey 2006. She has asthma and is all for medical marijuana To put it more bluntly, no pun intended :P, it actually helps asthma sufferers, it opens of the large passageways in your lungs. You'll be fine. I'd be better to smoke out of a bong (less smoke) but be careful, lol. The usually hit hard so don't overfill the bong before releasing if you get to smoke out of a bong. Just stay away from gravity bongs, that'll knock you on your ass :P"

I have mild asthma, will smoking pot cause an attack? I have pretty mild asthma, when I was younger it would get really bad sometimes from the dusty air where I used to live. Now I rarely have problems with it, and I can't recall many problems when I was around smoke before (like cigarettes or fire, not pot before) but it can sometimes be bad after a really long run. ANYWAYS, is it going to cause me to have an attack as soon as I smoke it? I've heard a lot of different things, that it can help a lot or that it can make it awful. ALSO, it would be my first time... Please no answers just calling me an idiot for considering pot... thanks...

Jalena replied: "Depending on how bad your asthma is.. But yes you would be at risk.. Marijuana does not help asthma is only makes it worst.. If there is anything marijuana helps it is cancer. But please if you read this do not go smoke marijuana because you have cancer.."

john d replied: "I use to have a bad case of asthma when i was younger, but now it only affects me when i get the flu. Anyway maybe its just my imagination but when i smoke alot of weed i usally end up catching the flu or a cold a few days later"

esquelaso replied: "Any type of smoke could be a trigger for asthma. Best bet would be to avoid whatever source of smoke you could. Met a man today that has terrible asthma attacks around even second hand smoke."

cooker_upper1 replied: "NO-in some countries, Medicinal marijuana is used as inhalation therapy to help asthma patients. Before 1935, over 50% of all the medication in the world was derived from marijuana. This herbal remedy also lowers blood pressure and stress. Besides these uses, it will help cancer patients with nausea and give them their appetite back, and help glaucoma patients cope with the killer headaches that are the worst effects of this illness."

Can I get my roomate arrested for pot smoking? I have asthma. And my roomate is now, and has been smoking his pot indoors for a while. Ive asked him to stop. The landlords dont care. I am stuck here for a while. He knows his smoking aggrevates my asthma and he doesnt care. The thing is hes gone from once or twice a week, which was fine to doing it every day, every chance he gets. Im sick of him. If i called 911 and reported him, could i get him in jail and out of here?

Love Canada. replied: "move?"

John Milton replied: "he'd be arrested for possession and be back on the streets in a few hours. better that you pack up your stuff and move out."

Richard Head replied: "See if you can get into his computer and visit a lot of illegal sites. That will put him in jail a lot longer than some personal use weed."

Amie replied: "you can get him charged if you get the police there when the pot is there however it probably wont get him kicked out and probably make the situation worse."

lilcapo2003 replied: "Then your living arrangement would be worse! Imagine if he had some paraphernalia or weed in close proximity to you and you didn't even know it - then you would go to jail as well. Don't be a nark. Just keep your door closed and move out when you get a chance."

Sean replied: "sry bud cant get him in jail, only for a few minutes atleast...u should just start packin and move back in with mom...sry"

Randall Flagg replied: "You might sit and roll one up with your roomate.Check this study out.."

goz1111 replied: "Depending on the amount of pot on him at the time the police may only issue a bench ticket, then what happens after the police leave, also if there is any pot in a common area and he denies the pot it becomes possession for every one in the rental including you"

kevin d replied: "Wow ur fuking gay dude hope you die of it."

Can pot smoke cure an asthma attack? i don't understand what causes my asthma but i know what happens. inflammation, mucus, stuff. when i am suffering an asthma attack, a hit or two of marijuana actually stops it. how is that possible? for those concerned.. i do not use this method, except for ONE time a few days ago when i awoke in the middle of the night after a friend's birthday party. my inhaler was left elsewhere, but his pipe was filled with grass, and i REALLY wanted to get back to sleep. thank you for not judging me

Frankie V replied: "Marijuana dilates your bronchial tubes ... which means it makes them open up as opposed to constricting. It's been proven by doctors. I used to smoke some whenever I was wheezing, and in about ten minutes I would be breathing clearly again. I don't know if this part is true, but it always felt like it was drying up or somehow getting rid of the mucus in my chest also. As for actually smoking weed to cure an asthma attack, that's probably pretty stupid. An asthma attack is much more serious than wheezing, and you should use some real medicine. Also, over the long run, I found that smoking weed made it hard for me to breathe ... like during the day when I wasn't having any asthma problems."

ravenstar23 replied: "Smoking pot is actually harmful to those with asthma. It’s far more damaging but there has been studies conducted on asthmatic patients to use marijuana as bronchial dilator but the oils in the modern day pot are far more damaging as is the method of smoking it. Marijuana contains many of the same lung irritants and cancer-causing compounds. I myself have asthma but there’s this product which I tried and it really helped me strengthen my respiratory system and allowed me to breathe deeply and naturally. The best thing about it is that I don’t have to use an inhaler anymore because before wherever I go I always have to carry a bag with me and in it was my inhaler. It’s such a hassle having it wherever I go coz the inhaler is my life. Without it I may probably die if I experience an attack but now I’m free of it. Instead of using drugs just to cure asthma I’d like to recommend the product that I used which relieved me from asthma without using any drugs. I hope that it would help a lot of people too. Click the link to access it..."

matt r replied: "Yeah because inhaling smoke while gasping for air is a brilliant idea. People who post here are so dumb I swear."

question about smoking with asthma? i have asthma but from time to time i liek to smoke pot. not cigs jsut weed every once in awhile. but my asthma isnt liek coughing or weezing and i usually breathe fine, ive never had an asthma attack but ya know i just liek to stay healthy so i havent really smoked since i was diagnosed with it a few months back, im 17 now by the way. is there a way i can smoke some weed sometimes even though i have this asthma? the only time i notice my asthma is when like i will take a breathe and i will feel a sharp pain, thats all my asthma is and yeah i have an inhaler also. what if i smoke then use my inhaler? would that still damage my lungs? if i use it right away? i jsut wanna stay healthy i dont wanna do anything stupid i just ejoy weed sometimes. nothing else. thank you=]

twilight fanatic:) i love jasper replied: "DONT SMOKE ITS JUST BAD WAY TO DIE FAST EVEN IF IT IS ONCE AND A WHILE IT DOESNT MATTER IT STILL AFFECTS U... DID U KNOW MOR EPEOPLE DIE FROM SMOKING THAN CAR CRASHES HOMICIDES AND LOTS OF OTHER CAUSES OF DEATH SO DONT AND IT AFFECTS THE PEOPLE AROUND U"

desireenyankees2 replied: "Smoking pot will definitely make your asthma worse....1 joint = 4 cigarettes......take care"

bob b replied: "you can always smoke when you have asthma, but its at your own discresion. if you start wheezing b\c ur smoking weed, how stupid are you gonna feel............ and define using weed the RIGHT way? wHaT??"

Athenae replied: "I have asthma and I also smoke. Peter Tosh says weed is good for asthma, but he's definitely not a doctor, lol. I'm not a doctor, but I would say as long as while you are actually smoking (hitting the bong, etc.) if that is extremely painful and you cannot breathe afterwards, (not just the usual coughing) don't do it. You can eat it. Also, a vaporizer is amazing, and it won't hurt your lungs. Technically, any smoke in your lungs obviously isn't good, but it won't do anything to particularly effect your asthma."

Merlin replied: "I wouldn't suggest it. Not even cigarette smoke - it scars your lungs. Weed smoke is heavier than regular cigarette smoke, and your lungs have to work harder to get the oxygen. It may not be such a problem now, but you're risking a severe attack later that, if there's bad damage to your lungs, your rescue inhaler may not work."

mortician replied: "Being a Respiratory Nurse of 32+ years, I'd say that you are cutting your life short by smoking the illegal substance. You already have Asthma, as I do, and you are scarring and putting poisons and pesticides in an already unhealthy area, that is compromised. A very poor/bad choice. :( I have NEVER smoked anything, and got my Asthma by Cigarette smoke around me. Jesus Saves!!!"

Will smoking affect my asthma? I have asthma and i want to know if i smoke will that be worse for my asthma or something. Like will it make it so that i have asthma attack easier? Will it make my asthma worse or not at all? And im talking about smoking cigarettes and pot.

Kip replied: "YES Asthma lungs= smoking going in to your lungs?"

Sugar Magnolia replied: "Don't smoke anything when you have asthma!! You shouldn't even be in a room where there are people smoking. Seriously, you'll create bigger problems down the line. Didn't your doctor tell you that? Lots of people with asthma smoke but it's just a bad idea."

mercurechad replied: "yes it will"

spiderwebs28 replied: "Hell yeah! I know people with it, and I worry about them because they've had attacks from being around smoke. Please be careful, and I DEFINITELY recommend stopping! There is too much saddness in the world to lose more people to cigarettes."

europa replied: "Yeah, listen to the people who care about you. DON'T smoke, get if off your system. You will feel better!!"

Kendra replied: "Yes it will. My little cousin has asthma and whenever her dad (my uncle) smokes he has to go outside because it makes it really hard for her to breathe. Smoking will definitely make your asthma worse and it might lead to COPD or another form of lung disease. It might also lead to more asthma attacks and it will make it easier for you to have asthma attacks. So as you can tell, I would take serious precautions if you decide to start smoking. Hope this info helps."

Jemie replied: "Naturally, smoking anything is not good for you (which is what I should be saying) .. one of my friends who has asthma use to smoke pot and all she would get was a bad cough. After you smoke just be sure to drink some water and use you inhaler and you will be alright"

Matt replied: "Other then damaging your lungs weed also fills gray matter in-between the brains cells which slows down a person’s ability to process information. I regret participating in pot smoking as a teenager. Pot smokers suffer CRS, Can’t Remember Sh*t. My friends who smoke pot are still doing the same thing they did twenty years ago. They have no motivation to do anything. They stay home and vegetate. How boring. Pot smoking damages your brain, lungs, physical well being, and social life."

JK replied: "If you really have asthma, smoking pot can land you in the hospital with a severe asthma episode. Bottom line, if you are smart enough to ask the question, then you are smart enough to make the right choice for your body!"
