I have been suffering from acid reflux for 10 years. I currently take Nexium, does celery, apples, etc help?? I take Nexium twice a day and the last month has been really bad, im looking for an alternative solution and have an upper GI scheduled this week.

mlgable replied: "There are no foods that help as it is your stomach that is producing the acid that splashes into your esophogus, My question is WHY did the doc wait 10 years before scheduling exams to find out what is causing your GERD???? I would never stick with a doc who doesn't bother to find out the cause of the problem and fix that if it can be fixed."

Isabella replied: "Get your colon cleaned out ! The stomach acid has no where else to go but up. Then throw away the anti-acids and all the prescription junk used to get rid of the precious stomach acid you really need to break down your food. Start taking double doses of Dr.Ohirra's Pro-biotics. These will replace the good flora in you gut. I guarantee you...you will be diagnosed with leaky gut syndrome. Please stop taking these acid inhibitors, they lead to digestive disorders. The main side effect of Nexium is esophageal cancer. Hello, isn't that the reason for taking the meds to start with...to prevent this ? Dr.Ohhira's Probiotics Health & Wellness Products-Probiotics "

Tiredness and lightheadedness from Nexium? I started taking Nexium two days ago (I have only taken it twice- once each day). I haven't taken it yet today but this morning and earlier today I felt really tired and lightheaded. I have allergies so it could be part of that, but I'm not sure. I havent had any other possible side effects. Can you get side effects from a pill like Nexium after its been almost a full day since the last time you took it? Or is it most likely just my allergies?

Unknown replied: "yes of course"

Has anyone ever had side effects from taking Nexium tablets? Does anyone know of any Nexium side effects? I have been taking Nexium for my chronic gastritis and stomach ulcers for over a month now. I was taking 20mg tablets twice a day but a week ago my doc has told me to up my dosage to 40mg twice a day which im currently doing. I have been feeling hot flushes over my body for a week but i dont have a fever or high temperature. Just wondering if the nexium could be making me feel this way? Anyone ever had or has heard of any side effects from taking Nexium? Insight please... FYI - I have had blood tests with normal blood count.

mynameischeese2001 replied: "well I have taken nexium and the most it did was make my stomach hurt and get a little dizzy but I believe hot flashes could be a side effect."

lyllyan replied: "Anything is possible - I also take nexium (what a Godsend!) and have experienced no side effects at all. You might want to call you doc and check."

nicholettejohnson replied: "Nexium is a proton-pump inhibitor. PPIs cause few side effects. Those that may occur are: headache diarrhea abdominal pain nausea sore throat upper respiratory infection fever vomiting dizziness rash constipation muscle pain unusual tiredness cough and back pain. -Rare side effects can occur in almost any part of your body. There is not much about this drug so far. Over dosage symptoms resemble side effects. As with any drug, if these hot flushes continue to bother you, contact your doctor. This drug is sometimes prescribed with clarithromycin, which may only increase blood levels."

Jody replied: "Esomeprazole (Nexium) is approved for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and in combination with amoxicillin and clarithromycin (Biaxin) for the treatment of patients with ulcers and H. pylori infection. Since it is very similar to omeprazole, it also is likely that it will be used for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Nexium, like other PPIs, is usually well-tolerated. The most common side effects include: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headaches, rash and dizziness. In the website listed below you will find a table that lists many side effects that are not listed in the "most common side effects" list. Some of those include tingled extremities, inability to concentrate, night sweats, hot flashes, panic attacks, nightmares, and more. I hope this information is useful to you! Best of luck!"

Anyone here diagnosed with LPRD? What are your symptoms? I've had GERD for many years, and I had fundoplication surgery 4 years ago. This and 40 mg Nexium a day have greatly controlled my symptoms, and I've been mostly OK. BUT-3 1/2 months ago, I got MONO. a few weeks in (AFTER initial symptoms of fever, exhaustion, swollen tonsils, and sore throat had mostly faded), my throat started to feel like a lump was in it. This and other symptoms have been present up to present time: constant mild cough, throat-clearing, post-nasal drip in throat, and swollen taste bud on back and sides of tonuge. An ENT said, without doing a scope, that is was likely LPRD, that the Mono had knocked out my immune system and invited my esophageal reflux up into my throat. He told me to take Nexium TWICE a day. This was 2 months ago. All these symptoms are still there, and lately I also feel a mild twitching or spasm-like sensation near my Adam's Apple, on and off. Do these symptoms sound like LPRD, or something else? Thanks. FYI-I've called the ENT to ask him all this, but he says he can no longer help me (not too crazy about him). My options now are to tough it out and see if it gets better, or seek another opinion. My GP tried allergy meds, but most symptoms are still just as bad (i'm a little more dired-out, that's it). before I see another ENT, I just wanted to know what people with solid diagnoses of this condition felt symptoms-wise, what treatment helped them, and how long it took to feel better. Thanks. LPRD is laryopharyngeal reflux disease-acid reflux in your throat rather than your esophageal/G.I. tract.

Winnie replied: "I don't know what LPRD is, or whether you have it, but any time you are concerned and a doctor does not take you seriously, it is time to get another doctor. I would recommend a gastroenterologist. I would also recommend a thyroid specialist. The ENT doctor may actually not be able to help you any further. It may be outside of his area of medicine. You might also want to see an allergy doctor."

is it okay to take Prilosec 4 times a day? I was diagnosed with GERD a while back my doctor had me taking taking Nexium, 40mgs twice daily, and all my chest pain and heartburn went away. I switched insurance recently, however, and it won't cover Nexium so i've been taking Prilosec OTC twice a day, but I still have some chest pain and heartburn. I'm just wondering if it's okay to take an increased dosage of Prilosec, like twice in the morning and twice in the evening. I figured that since I was taking 80 mg's of Nexium before that it would be okay to take 80 mg's of Prilosec since they are basically the same thing.

kmax27 replied: "My doctor has me on 2 in the morning and 2 at night. It's ok, but you are better off asking your doctor what he thinks."

Is Adderall 15mg twice a day and Wellbutrin 300 XL mg okay to take together? along with nexium 40 mg a day?

Deborah B replied: "call your Dr or the pharmacist. even if you got them from the dr they sometimes miss things in your chart if they gave them at differant times, by all means check with someone, they even have a med site on msn home page. health the answer might be there"

bbbunit replied: "Ive taken adderall xr 20mg bid and Sarafem 20mg tid at the same time with my dr. permission. Check with ur dr!!"

does taking daily medicines for ulcer like ranitidine zantac and nexium not harmful for health? i always take this because i feel something boiling in my stomach if i can't take it daily, infact i take it twice a day

Alfonso M replied: "I have bleeding Ulcers plus intestinal lesions and the doctors have had me on Prilosec for almost three years. It has no known serious interactions with other meds and I'll be on it for life. No problems from it yet."

banzai_4 replied: "any side effects of those drugs are a lot better than the complications of a ruptured ulcer, which if left untreated can be fatal. Take your medicines."

señora replied: "Did your doctor recommended it? My father is in raditidine for almost 40 years (he started at 33 on medical Dx), so I do too (since 12 years ago) and we don´t have any secondary problems. Well, we don´t take it for every day on all those years, it´s about some 2 or 3 months, twice a day, and then maybe 6 - 8 months nothing, and then again. Only as doctor recommends. Go to doctor´s office and he will tell. Ask everything and you´ll be more confident. Take care...."

Need some advise please!? I went to see ENT specialist, because I had very sore throat. I also have reflux problem and take Nexium for it (once daily). After seeing me , ENT doc told me to take Nexium twice daily (morning and before dinner) for 5 days ONLY, than he said you will need to leave only one dose for the evening time. I don't know why he said exactly 5 days. I've been taking Nexium for 2 years (only once in the morning). Yesterday was second day taking two pills a day and I felt my stomach hurting really bad, before I took a pill (dinner time). Today I took one more pill in the morning (3-rd day) and I feel little bit of nausea plus discomfort in my stomach. My throat defenately does not feel so sore, as it has been for the last few years. I don't know what to do, should I continue taking it for 5 days like doc said or just stop it and continue with one. What would be better to do? Need your advise please!!! Thank you!

Little mommy replied: "I would go ahead and follow the Doctor's orders...If you still have symptoms, go back to the doctor."

ritejudgemento2025 replied: "If i were you i would stop taking two pills and take one and see what happens. and if that doesn't do anything than ask your doctor about motrin because thats what i take and it helps me whenever i have a sore throat or whatever."

Kyle replied: "If I were you, I would contact your doctor and tell him exactly what you just told us. He may give you a different type of medication, but I highly doubt it since you've already been taking Nexium for a while. If you need a QUICK answer, and your doctor is unavailable for some freak reason, then contact your pharmacist and tell him/her about it."

garrettsambo replied: "Go to the doctor."

help me with my out of control acid reflux please? I was diagnosis with Gerd a few years ago. I take Nexium 40 mg twice a day, Regalin 3 times a day and Carafate liquid. Why am I still suffering? I don't eat the fun foods that I love, I drink one cup, if that of Simply Smooth coffee in the am.... I still have a terrible choking feeling in my throat, I am still coughing acid. It's really driving me crazy... I am losing weight to help, I have a little tummy, but I am not obese... I mean I see huge people pack away stuff and never suffer... why me? What can do? Any home remedies out there that are tried and true? Erica

Green Eyes replied: "Your esophogus may be eroding so much and closing. You might want to have an endoscopy done where they will insert a tube in through your mouth and down to your stomach. If your esophogus is closing, they will be able to push it back out. I have about the same problems and take almost the same meds & I too am not even close to being overweight and I'm only 24! After my procedure, I also have Gastritis."

hillary replied: "Please go to see a gastro doctor for a scope of your esophagus. My husband had these same symptoms and was diagnoised with esphageal cancer."

anton p replied: "The cure is not only a matter of what you eat. Stress is one of most common causes. You have to relax and also have a regulated lifestyle. Take meals at fixed hours, exercise, if you have stress at your job or at home take measures to eliminate it, avoid heavy meals and totally eliminate alcohol, coffee, tea, sodas, sauces, fried meals, onion, garlic, spices (cook with herbs), sleep on the side curled. This is not a matter to be addressed with a couple of pills or make a few sacrifices with the fun food and that's it, in no time you're back on track. This is a matter of rethinking your lifestyle for ever. Probably too much of the love food (chips, popcorn, nuts, mayo, burgers, beer, sodas and the like) has caused it in the first place. I had this condition and after 2 years of constant care I have reduced it to the point where it bothers me once in a month, maybe."

dighalbank replied: "Whether you are visiting your physcian regularly tell him your problem .I suggest endoscopic study of oesophagus and stomach ,liver functon tests and other relevant tests for GERD."

Preciosa replied: "I have the same problem. I actually asked a question related to this matter this morning. I wish I can find the cure too. I'm 24 yrs and thing. I cant deal with this problem! ! I am on medication too, I take 3 different med a day and doesn't seem to help either. I feel for you girl.. : ( I wish you the best."

Dr Bill you answered my question about gerd .......? I currently take nexium 40mg twice a day and I am still having these symptoms every day. I have burning throat ...... no coughing or wheezing ......... I did lose lots of weight and get more exercise and it seems my problems are just getting worse. I kind of wonder if I stopped taking my meds if my tummy would digest my food better and I would at least feel ok sometimes?

richard s replied: "i have the exact same problem and form what ive gathered it has alot to do with stress. and i know its sucks to have it because correct me if im wrong you cant remember not having it and its like a constant splinter in your thumb:( i have yet to find the proper way to handle my gerd so if you find anything that helps please contact me and let me know. Also my wife whos mother is a nurse told me to go get checked for something called h. pylori. its a stomach fungus which grows in your stomach which if left uncontested could cause the stomach problems."

wersells replied: "Nexium is the drug of choice for GERD. The burning in the throat sounds like more than simple GERD. When it gets to the point of coming up to your throat, that is called regurgitation. That does put you in danger of having an episode of aspiration. I cannot advise you to stop your medications because sometimes completely stopping can cause "rebound" symptoms that are worse than what is being treated! Having said that, I am a strong believer in not taking prescription medications. It is truly unfortunate that most of our medical thinking is geared toward treating symptoms rather than treating causes. After all, our world is a "cause and effect" world. For every effect there is a cause. If you treat the cause, the effect goes away! My advice for you would be to find a doctor who can help you sort out the causes to your digestive problems. One of the best I've found is Dr. Al Sears. He has a referral page on his website where you can enter the state you live in and obtain a list of doctors who practice this way. It would be far better for you to go to someone like this and allow them to ween you off of your prescription meds and substitute natural treatments as they sort ot the true causes."

mofactor1 replied: "Good advice from wersells. just to clarify, H. Pylori is a bacteria, not a fungus. Most people who have GERD are infected with this bug. It can be treated with a "cocktail" that involves at least 2 but usually 3 medications (2 antibiotics and a PPI like nexium)."
