I'm On Topamax, my doctor says to take my pills at night...? I'm On Topamax, my doctor says to take my pills at night, i also take my Birth Control, Paxil, and Vitamin with them... Is that ok? Cuz my urine is kinda cloudy? Should I Take half of my dose of Topamax in the Day and Half at night? I'm a little worried about kidney stones...thanks for your help ♥

Answers! replied: "never split any thing without talking to your doctor you will have problems so tell them and all those pills sound a little much."

The Quiet Man replied: "after all these years dealing with docs, let me tell you they just don't care. i am not certain they even know anymore than what you read on the printout you get with a prescription. pharmaseutical companies are so rich, they continue to make things like zyprexa which has caused me much grief. they have had to put a billion us dollars in a settlement account and it is being distributed to those who were damaged. like me. my point is, study it and use your best judgement and instincts. only you can protect you. learn all you can beyond what the doc and even the printout that comes with the drug says. these damn things can really screw you up. not in a week or two but some can really hurt you permenately. hell, they don't care. it is all about the bottomline and earnings per share. it is high finance that guides them all. they deal with people dying and getting really messed up everyday so they are jaded to all that. all they care about is not getting sued and paying country club fees etc. they have to be very careful what they say so you cannot get a good opinion from them. they are like a vending machine. say some symptoms are even request some pill you think might help and the will write you up and keep careful records to prove they only responded to what you described. i am so disillusioned with them all. i was never ill until i got old. they make me feel like garbage and waste of their valuable time. i work hard to not resent reality."

Jay W replied: "Most doctors suggest taking Topamax at night, as it causes some sedation and mental dulling. Obviously, it makes sense to feel this way when you are asleep as opposed to running around during the day. I don't know that I would worry about cloudy urine, but if you have other symptoms, it is worth bringing up with your doctor."

Does anyone have severe PMS and bipolar disorder? If so, what do you do or take to help feel better? I have PMDD actually 10 days to 2 weeks out of the month and it is hell. I also have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I am on Wellbutrin - 300 mg a day. I take vitamins, cal-mag-zinc and Topamax. I need relief. Can anyone out there help.

Cat S replied: "Poor thing. I've got bipolar disorder and its exacerbated by the hormone swings that occur during the ovulation-menstruation cycle too. My shrink prescribed depo provera injections for me as it eliminated my periods all together and completely removed the source from which some of my problems stemmed. Maybe you could look at taking a pill or mini pill to help regulate your hormone cycle and lessen the PMDD, or get a contraceptive implant or depo shots which often cease menstruation all together..."

combackkidxxx replied: "hey, hate to break it to you but whoever put you on an antidepressant for bipolar disorder should go back to medical school. when you are going through manic phases, antidepressants INCREASE the rage and depression. that's why you still do not feel any better. i take lamictal 100mg for my bipolar disorder....it works amazingly. i also have ADHD and even though i take adderall, lamictal does help to calm down my impulses too..somehow. look up Lamictal on google.....there's only ONE side effect that some people can have....the rest of the side effects can go away once it starts to kick in. the one side effect is a body rash....i haven't had that and most people dont....i've also never had any other side effect of lamictal in the year i've been taking it. it probably can help with your PMDD....but my sister has pmdd and she takes like...yaz birth control for that....maybe you should see about getting yourself on something like that...cause since i'm a guy...i dont know crap about that....GET OFF OF THE ANTIDEPRESSANT AND GET YOURSELF SOME MEDICATION THAT TREATS BIPOLAR DISORDER. ANTIDEPRESSANTS ONLY MAKE YOUR MANIC SIDE WORSE. hope this helps. also, i take bayer nutritional science for more of a relief of my anger problems....it helps a lot. no interaction with my lamictal so it's like double the action to prevent my disorder from showing. so yeah, look into something like that (omega 3/fish oil will help reduce your depression and irritiability....or if you like fish, eat lots of it.) you don't necessarily need to take calmagzinc (am i just getting the wrong impression of that? is it just zinc or is it something else?)....if you're a teenager i recommend "teen source multivitimans"...but if you're not, just take regular multivitmans and they'll have zinc in it......hope this helps you. if you have anymore questions, email me"

I am treated with Lithium, lamotrogine for the bi polar but still have probs pre- menstrually with depression. Have approached a gynae who proposed very low dose oestrogen and progestergen round the clock. Has any one any advice?"

I took topamax and my hair fell out allot, what will make it grow back? I was on a 100mg of topamax for about 8 months and my hair has really really thinned out and fell out and its really upseting me, i have very recently stopped taking it, and would now like my hair to grow back, what is out there that i can take...ie vitamins that will help this process along? Please this whole experience is very very upsetting for a 20 year old!!! Thanks!

MANoftheHOUR replied: "Sorry, this is permanent. On the bright side, you will have a better chance at making friends with LEUKIMIA patients!!!"

Tori B replied: "I'm 15 and I was also on topamax about a year ago and the same thing happenned. I took biotin and gelatin both of which are very helpful it took a few months but now my hair is thicker than ever so be sure to continue taking the vitamins after your hair grows back. Good luck and I've been there I know how upsetting it is. <3"

ninjaxprincessx89 replied: "There is a vitamin called Biotin that helps with hair growth. I know someone who takes it and it does work. More info: "

if i take to many vitamins while im TTC will the ones i don't need will come straight out of me (literally?)? i know its to much Information but i've never noticed before. but i know it's funny but i believe i've literally pooed out one of my vitamins. the medicines i take are: 1. Prenatal Vitamins 1 time a day (Prescribed) 2. Folic Acid 2 times a day (Prescribed) 3. Magnesium 1 time a day 4. Evening Primrose Oil 3 times a day (as directed) 5. Calcium 2 times a day 6. Topamax 1 1/2 2 times a day (Prescribed) I don't know which one it was though. All i know is that it could have been either my prenatal vitamin, or my calcium. Is it true that if i get to much of what i need it can come straight back out of me? the only capsle i take is evening primrose oil. it was an actual pill, it could be broke up and everything. you dont think my pill could have got trapped inside the shell and the pill didnt disolve?

lilygirl2727 replied: "no, the vitamin won't come out of you, but if it is a capsule, the shell can pass through without being dissolved, so it looks like one of the actual vitamins, but its not."

girly.wife replied: "I'm not sure about being able to SEE one of your vitamins come out. But any intake of a vitamin more than your body needs (and it knows how much it needs) will indeed come back out. Usually it is dissolved and passes out through urine and that is why it may be bright or fluorescent yellow, or dark yellow. If the vitamin is poor quality (does not break down in stomach acid) then it will come out in solid form, mixed up among everything else. From the looks of it you are going to be peeing out alot of vitamins. I don't know your daily nutrition needs or what is met through food, but that is alot of vitamin supplements for the average person. Try taking one of your vitamin pills and putting it into a small glass of 1/2 water 1/2 vinegar. If the vitamin doesn't mostly dissolve in 30 minutes, then what you see remaining is what will most likely be coming back out in solid form. Not to mention what does dissolve may or may not be used by your body. Evening primrose oil is not a vitamin, it is an herb, therefore your body does not have a nutritional requirement for it. And your body does not know how much to use or excrete. How many vitamins you take is up to you, if you are excreting most of it out it is just hurting your wallet. Hope this helped! :) **BABY DUST!! Good luck!**"

flips replied: "I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know any pills to help, you could try Holland and Barrett. they have many pills to help with hair loss etc. you may need to change your diet too, ask your doctor, and/or a recommended dietitian good luck x"

Mike D replied: "You will need Vitamin B12 I think, Zinc and a special hair and nails tablets. These are available from Holland & Barrett assuming you are in the UK. My wife hair was falling out alot when she combed it. The doctor told her to take this tablets as she said she went completely bald but now has a full length hair. I've noticed my wife's hair is not falling out so much now."

FIONA S replied: "i read on answers yesterday that pre -pregnancy vitamins were good for hair and nails. but i haven't tried them"

How to prevent hair loss? Im only 15 and my hair was always really thick. But in the past 3 months it started falling out and i cant get it to stop, its gotten really really thin. Some of the things ive tried are taking lots of vitamins and switching shampoo. But it hasnt helped. I do dye my hair, i also was on topamax for migranes, but i quit taking it because it can make your hair fall out, but the thing is i stoped taking it months ago, ive dyed my hair all my life. But idk what to do anymore. someone please help!!!

Jack Meoff replied: "remember where you put them"

Eddeesims replied: "Shave your head. you cant lose what you dont have."

Rogerseventytwo replied: "Don't try that try Cow poop"

**Argni Lucanio** replied: "do u have stress? if u do then thats your answer"

Twilight Lover! replied: "Talk to your doctor, but stress is sometimes a sign of hair loss. Also, it can be hereditary. Good Luck!"

Intellectual Realist replied: "Are you one of those girls who's religious about flat ironing her hair? If you are, then that explains so much."

Sandra S replied: "well you should stop dying your hair and if you shower with hot water stop that makes your hair fall out as well."

in the car replied: "STOP dying your hair!!!!!!!!! also start taking vitamin specifically for strong HAIR growth Use NIOXIN shampoo"

Holly C replied: "There's only two hair loss drugs clinically tested and FDA approved : Minoxidil (Rogaine and other brands) and Finasteride (Proscar, Propecia, etc.), there are some interesting drugs too like Dutasteride or Follica but there aren't enough studies yet. If you're into natural stuff, the only one that might be helpful is Saw Palmeto (there are capsules for sale in natural shops) because it contains anti androgens similar to the ones found on Propecia. Laser treatment can improve your existing hair but wont help you regrow lost hair, hair transplant works but i would consider it the last option especially since you're still young. Minoxidil if you buy generic brands it's quite cheap and Proscar if you get the generic version it's reasonably cheap and will last you a long time. Quite frankly all the other stuff are either placebos or scams. ... ..."

Ellie replied: "Sometimes it takes a long time for medication to get out of your system, so that might be your problem. If not than I would strongly recommend that you see a doctor. Vitamin deficiency and shampoos are probably not your problem. You may have a hormone imbalance. So talk to your doctor about it and he/she will be able to help you. Sudden hair loss at a young age signifies a problem, especially if it's very noticeable as you mentioned."

clboarder12 replied: "it could be that your hair is dead. i had the same thing this summer. sept my hair was burned and dead. so i started losing it all. but if you cut your hair really short then it will grow back within a month or so. thats what i did and my hair is back to normal"

SmellsLikeVinegar replied: "check your iron level. eat more beef and turkey... do not over do vitamins with iron it's bad for your organs... stop dyeing your hair!"

aimilooo replied: "stress can induce hair loss; try relaxing and exercising to stay healthy. take walks around your neighborhood to reduce your stress and help you relax. also, bring it down a notch with the hair dyeing.. it's not good for you as it's not natural. eat right and maintain a regular sleep-wake cycle."

Em_payton replied: "i am 16, and i have the same problem, although i dont dye my hair. you should definetly stop dying your hair because thats obviously a reason why its falling out, but i suggest vitamins that contain alot of biotin which is very good for hair growth. ive been taking it for about 5 weeks and already see improvement (3000 mcg per day) and keep up with washing your hair often. like every 3 or 4 days. healthy eating also stimulates hair growth. good luck :)"

Sonja S replied: "Although coloring your hair can make it thinner, I think the real problem is your stress level. You are only 15. Medicines can add to the concern too, What you need to do is seek a professional in hair loss prevention. They can do stimulation treatments and also find out the real reason your hair is falling out. This site can only help you so much. After that you need to get the help from where you are, and one that is trained in the area you need. I am a stylist and understand your dilemma."

Laura G replied: "Hi, Joelle, I'm so sorry you're so frustrated. I'm sure you must be at your wit's end. Here are some suggestions: 1) Get your thyroid levels checked. Sometimes, thyroid issues affect hair. 2) Don't just take "lots of vitamins" because you may be counteracting the ones your body truly needs, which probably include a good B complex and iron. 3) Which reminds me... hair loss can also be attributed to iron deficiency. You're 15 and probably menstruating, so have your doctor check your iron levels, too. 4) Try not to wash your hair every single day. Use the most natural products you can. It's been shown that sodium laurel sulfate can cause hair loss. 5) You're off the Topamax, but your hair could still be responding because there could have been residual Topamax in your system. Give your body a chance to readjust. 6) Gently massage your scalp at night to stimulate the roots of your hair. 7) Finally, DO NOT SELF DIAGNOSE and swallow lots of vitamins-- just because they're "vitamins" doesn't mean they're good for you. Let the doctor find the problem. If he/she can't find the problem, then start off SLOWLY with the vitamin experimentation. Hope this helps!"

sum replied: "You can try this remedy to help strengthen your hair and control hair loss. Mix 1 egg, 2.5 tablespoons milk powder and 1 tablespoon wheat germ oil. Massage on the scalp and leave it for 30 minutes. Wash with a mild shampoo.Check out for more info."

Mladen M replied: "No one really knows how it feels unless they experience it for themselves.Treatments vary widely, dependent upon age, cause and general body condition. The first step is to see a physician. Hair loss can be an early sign of some diseases and these need to be ruled out. As well, if your scalp is itchy and scaly, it is possible that a bacterial or fungal infection is at work. Fortunately, these can easily be resolved. Poor diet and lack of exercise can be culprits as well. The important thing is to rule out any of the simpler, temporary causes and set your mind at ease"

When I'm sleeping, it feels as if something is banging my forehead...? Many times in the night, I wake up to what feels something banging my forehead; jerking my entire head. Often, this is followed by excessive ringing in my ears. This is quite concerning and it's affecting my sleep. Here are some details about my health (and I've no insurance so medical testing is not an option): -male -22 years old -155 lbs -5'11 -caucasian -vegetarian -relatively active -moderate/light drinker -non-smoker -no drug use -hypertensive (unknown cause) -Chiari-Malformation (elongated cerebral tonsils causing excess pressure of CSF) -various allergies And here are the medications and vitamins that I consume every day (my physican is well aware): -Celexia (antidepressant and for anxiety) -Atenenol (anti-hypertension and for anxiety) -prescription-strength Clariton (allergies) -Topamax (sleep sedative) -vitamin A through E, and multivitamin -zinc -omega-3 -magnesium -melatonin -soy-whey protein -sudafed (for allergies) -caffeine -aspirin

KYGrace replied: "Sounds like an interaction of some kind between the large amount of medications and vitamins you take each day....kind of like a speedball effect. Try eliminating some of the ones that are the least necessary and see what happens. Good luck!"

Wine and Window Guy replied: "Holy crap you take too much stuff. I would bet the Topamax is messing with you, sleeping medicines are funny that way. I would throw all that crap a way and drink a glass of wine!"

darfy1 replied: "It is probably your blood pressure that is the culprit, although I would also eliminate caffeine. Topamax has some pretty weird side effects. It made me stoooopid!! You don't have insurance, but do they have a County Health Department where you live, or a hospital that provides indigent care for those of us who don't have insurance? Here in Georgia it is the Henry W. Grady Memorial Hospital. I get my prescriptions for $2 each and $25 for emergency room visits. You should explore this."

seamanab replied: "i have similar or used to i found that the problem with me was my pillow i tried the soft the hard and medium i found the medium did the trick and the headpain eventualy subsided i dont say this is the cure but its somthing you could try all the best ..........seamanab"

watty replied: "You take sudafed and clariton everyday? I dont know about clariton but sudafed is a stimulant and if your taking more than 15mg a day you are probably taking to much, that stuff can make you jittery as h e double hockey sticks. Add on caffeine and whatever side effects those antidepressants have and you have a real recipe for feeling totallly out of sorts. try dropping a thing or two off the list till the banging goes away. Good luck, I hope you feel better."

benejueves replied: "SOUNDS like from all that medication you are consuming could have resulted in the burning of the lining in your nasal septum. It also appears you might be taking medications that don't coincide with one another. you are on to much meds. Pills contradict one another, and go to an ENT (ear, nose and throat doctor asap)."

Can't drive? Any idea of what can make a person unable to drive more than 3-4 miles for years on end? At that point, disorientation, a vertigo-type of sentation and heart-racing have gradually increased to where the person must pull over or turn back. Psychological factors have been ruled out. My only other thoughts on possible "culprits" are the following: Topamax, Phentermine, Xenical (blocking vitamins), occasional lack of food (made up for later), dehydration, orthostatic hypotension. Any other ideas? No doctor seems to be able to figure this out. They give cop-out excuses like "eat healthy food like chicken." Well, stuffing one's face normally does not solve or cause such problems. It is NOT psychological...that has been ruled out. It happens when the car is moving...vertigo-related.

samiad2006 replied: "jus close ur eyes and floor it...hey not like anything else is workin"

Diane D replied: "If the only activity causing the symptoms is driving, I think it is at least partly psychological and that psychological factors have not been ruled out. If it doesn't happen when you just sit in a chair, doesn't happen when you just sit in the car and pretend like you are driving, does not happen when you are a passenger in the car, then it has to be mostly psychological. If it is related to vertigo I would expect the symptoms to occur when you are a passenger."

Dare2be_Naive replied: "hmmmm..... if it weren't for the elevated heart rate, I might suggest inner ear problems (which can cause dizziness, vertigo, etc.). Does the vertigo CAUSE your heart to start racing or visa versa?(in other words, which comes first?) Also, do you get this feeling anywhere else, or only when in the car? If it is only in the car, it would most likely be psychological (I know, I know... ruled out. But are you SURE?) or motion sickness. If you get this feeling other places as well, you might want to check out possible neurological causes and visit some specialists (i.e. neurologist, ENTs, internists, etc.). Sorry I can't help more! Good Luck!"

Laparoscopic bariatric surgery & taking medications on my new tiny stomach??? I am scheduled to have laparoscopic bariatric surgery on 12/28/06 & I would like to know if I can continue to take my daily RXs in their pill forms or if they will be too large/too many for my newly formed small stomach. I am taking 1 Glucovance 2.5/500mg pill (2x daily), Topamax 125mg, Lasix 20mg, Pravachol 40mg, Ambien 10mg, & all the Bariatric Advantage vitamin suppliments I will have to be on. I hope to lose the Glucovance, Lasix, & Pravachol within a few months of surgery, but I am concerned because most of my medications can't be crushed to powder form... is this true? I know Glucovance is time released... and I think the Topamax is too.... Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated as I prepare for my life change! Thank you to everyone that answers!!!

gemmyt replied: "Isn't this a question you should be asking a doctor? We here on Answers are not doctors we only play one on the computer!"

Char M replied: "This is definitely a question for your doctor and/or surgeon to answer. If you can crush them, fine, otherwise do the best you can. Your pouch will be irritable for up to 3 months. There may be another form the drugs come in which would be very helpful. It's incredibly important to get your vitamins, B12 and calcium citrate in as well. Most of those come in liquid as you already know. I personally get the shots for B12 at my doctor's office. The very best of luck to you. At about 3-4 months you will begin to feel good, but be prepared to be a little uncomfortable. The rewards are tremendous!!! Email me off line at if I can help in any way."

DENISE replied: "it's best you ask your doctor what is best for you after the surgery. better safe then sorry"

shiara_blade replied: "you need to have this conversation with your doctors including the surgeon"

NuvaRing ? I just started it and was reading through the drug facts and it said... If NuvaRing is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining NuvaRing with the following: Acetaminophen (Tylenol) Antibiotics such as ampicillin and tetracycline Anticonvulsants such as Dilantin, Phenobarbital, Tegretol, Trileptal, Topamax, Felbatol Antifungals such as Gris-PEG, Nizoral, Sporanox Atorvastatin (Lipitor) Clofibrate (Atromid-S) Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune) HIV drugs classified as protease inhibitors (Agenerase, Crixivan, Fortovase, Invirase, Kaletra, Norvir, Viracept) Morphine (Astramorph, Kadian, MS Contin) Phenylbutazone Prednisolone (Prelone) Rifadin (rifampin) St. John's wort Temazepam Theophylline (Theo-Dur) Vitamin C So....Tylenol and Vitamin C!....Should I ask my doctor about this? Has anyone else using asked their doctor about this

Mary replied: "Vitamin C may raise levels of estrogen in the blood. You will have to take at least 1g to have that happen which is a lot. Tylenol is affected by the hormones and may lower the blood levels of acetaminophen. Neither of them lower the effectiveness of the Nuva Ring. Your doctor can verify this with you. You can read the link below that will tell you what every interaction for each drug is. It is for the pill but the drug interations are the same for the Nuva Ring. They contain the same hormones."
