Acne Vulgaris Treatment Information in Answers
Can anyone offer advice on the best acne treatments available? Hi there. I just got back from a visit to my GP, who has diagnosed me with Acne Vulgaris. He's sending me to see a specialist and says i'll probably be put on Roaccutane. I have friends who have had this treatment and their skin has been left scarred as a result. There are also hundreds of very nasty side effects. Can ANYONE please let me know if there is anything more effective out there. I am so depressed. Please help if you can. Many thanks, Charlotte.

nickoscar replied: "You need to get the mucky water out of your system, what worked for me was as much good hard shagging as often as 5 times a day more if youcan manage it, works wonders believe me."

TONYA replied: "i know this sounds gross but my mum used to use our wet nappys on our faces when we were young now me an my sister never get spots so my sister had her son pee on a towel an wipe his face with it in 3 weeks his acne had gone so all i can say is try it no one is going to know but you"

Hilary O replied: "Years ago I was also diagnosed with Acne Vulgaris, which is a mild form of acne and you really don't need to see a specialist for that just a dermatologist. Get recommendations from friends or family members who have been to see a dermatologist. A clear topical solution-can't remember the name of it- was prescribed by my dermatologist it worked wonderfully, the acne returned but not as bad as it was before my face is free from acne. I now use Clearasil 3 times a day and moisturize with Mary Kay Timewise age fighting. As to what will be prescribed for you that is left to the dermatologist."

neminly replied: "Charlotte, the adverse reactions are incredible. One of the posters on the board today was complaining about a lot of hair loss caused by the drug. Here's an article on Associated Content that shows how bad Accutane it, even according to Roche's own studies. There's one alternative that you probably haven't tried. All you need is cold processed honey, baking soda, oats and coconut oil. Studies from the National Library of Medicine web site are used to back this up and links are provided to those studies in the article. It really does work and the studies prove it."

Bri replied: "First of all, no one has flawless skin. Some people have it better than others, but thats just genes and stuff. Go to .com/reelbeauty11 for skin and beauty tips. I know its for young girls, but it works for anyone! I know some people who have tried ProActive and it worked, but I also know some others who have tried it and it made it worse :( I know some who have put rubbing alchol on their skin or peroxcide to dry up the pimples. It also kills bacteria :) . Also, try going to a dermotoligist, or ask your regular doctor. Often times the regular doctor, who knows more about your med. history and whatnot can help you more than a dermatologist. are you a vegetarian? That might have something to do with it. Its worth checking into. Try dabbing toothpaste or honey on your zits before you go to bed - works wonders. Overall, remember that beauty counts more on the inside than on the outside, and your true friends will love you for you, and not your skin. Oh, and try a different kind of foundation, if you wear it. Try to use a kind with lots of water in it. It looks great and doesn't clog pores half as bad. And check your habits - do you prop your chin up a lot with your hands? That might cause the acne as well. Look for the cause, as well as the cure."

lynonna replied: "I got my first zit when I was eleven and then went on to have acne for years. To this day I still get the odd spots and blemish. Over the years, I tried many things. Depending on your age, you will probably find that this is hormonal. However, I have found the Clinique anti blemish range to be great. It is a bit pricey, but it really helps to keep spots at bay. When I was younger, I used Oxipads. These can dry the skin, but did help to keep the spots away. You could maybe try these for a month and see how you get on. You need to be careful with some of the other products in the market as they can contain agents which dry out the skin too much, cause the production of more oil and then more spots. You need to be careful about some of the topical solutions that you get from the GP as well as these can cause redness of the skin (since they are quite harsh and dry the skin). Clinique do an anti-blemish gel and it really drys the spots up. Remember though, if you are using a gel to dry the spots, you will need a good moisturiser. Have a look at their website. After years of trying and testing almost every spot cream on the market, I have found this to be one of the best. You can even go into one of the department stores and speak to one of the assistants. I cleanse my face at night, moisturise and then get the zit cream on. It's great and zits are gone almost overnight."

Pauline P replied: "The natural acne cure discussed below may be worth a shot, before trying something more drastic."

julie replied: "There are a variety of ways to treat acne and many acne sufferers have found that the natural types of acne treatments can be effective at helping to stop your acne and no negative side effects.Log on to for a few home made tips to heal acne ."

lozzy replied: "my doctor prescribed me with eurethromycin (sorry about spelling) tablets and Dalacin T topical lotion for my acne and they worked so i stopped using them 2 years ago. i now only get the odd spot like most people now (not a face full of sore annoying boils and spots)so ask your doctor about them- hope i helped"

What acne treatments and routines have worked for you? I am medical student and have become interested in dermatology and I'm researching using many conduits. That being said I have seen a few individuals ranging in background, race etc. with acne problems and half the time, cold diagnosis doesn't work. Even seasoned dermatologist say it takes time to understand what works; its the people that tell you what to prescribe! I want to know about your skin treatments and routines. From scar treatments that have worked for you in conjunction with your acne treatments to curing full blown cases of acne vulgaris or acne without comedones. If you've seen a doctor for your acne, what were you diagnosed as, prescribed and did the treatment work? I understand this is somewhat private information but it could go a long way with helping another individual with their own personal bout with acne. I have 3rd party survey information but that doesn't give doctors a truly accurate idea of what works best as it is not that simple and they're often associated with a skin treatment retailer anyway. Only experience in what works does and I don't have that yet. Be honest and frank. If a popular product didn't work for you, say so but also include your usage. If you would miss a few treatments a month and so on. Of course diet and exercise have a lot to do with circulation of the blood to the skin, the amount of sebum one secrets and hormone levels so don't hold back any of that information too. I hope to get a big response as I would like to use this as a small sampling of testimonials from the simple to the complex. Thanks in advance for your openness and participation!

Genrix replied: "about it you can get information from here"

Stacey replied: "I'm 15, so yeah a teenager and with the hormones and everything.... you get the picture. I use Clearasil face wash that I use everynight, and I also use face packs every few weeks to cleanse my skin. make sure i don't wear makeup too much, I also eat a balanced healthy diet with all the major food groups along with exercise. I also just cleanse my face with baby wipes to get rid of dirt and use a anti- spot treatment stick for spots also."

Ikjfdorh A replied: "Overall, your morning regimen should include the following: *Wash your face with cleanser *Apply serum. *Apply moisturizer *Apply retinol cream (optional) *Wait for moisturizer to dry, then apply makeup. Your night regimen should look like this: *Wash face with cleanser *Wash face with baking soda mixture *Apply serum *Apply moisturizer *Apply retinol cream (optional) *Apply benzoyl peroxide"

lostintranslation replied: "Acne.orgs Benzoyl Peroxide at 2.5%. At night I apply this after washing with a gentle cleanser. Then 15 minutes later I use an oil free moisturizer. I did not ever have a bad enough issue to see a derm. though."

I want to have a laser treatment on my face? im an 18 year old male who have acne vulgaris since i was 12. I try all product like proacti and such....it work a little but on ce i stop my face was getting even worse and i was thinking about having a laser treatement. i wantta know how much does it cost per each treatment because i don't an insurance now.

jandy replied: "Insurance may or maynot cover laser procedure as it's considered cosmetic. Can try long course of Retin A 1%, Rx and other products from board certified cosmetic dermatologist. I've had laser, total face/spot treatment. $900 and $500. Try obagi system with good results. You might need oral antibiotics and heavy exfoliater which is retin A, gives a sunburn peel for about first 2 wks if used twice a day, laser will correct skin scarring, but not check underlying problem if still hormonal and could open skin to worse infection. Get seen professionally. Good luck, and wash your hands/cell phone or anything around your face, change pillowcase, no deodorant soaps, perfume soaps or triclosan on your face, the main acne products are Benzoyl peroxide, bleaching agent, different %, 10 is highest, salicylic acid (clearsil or neutragena even generic brands/walmart/walgreens) and one of, now I can' think of it. /but if you compare all products, they have one of the ingredients or both in different strengths."

Can you please help with my Skincare Project?(Broken Capillaries, Pigmentation, Acne Vulgaris &Rosacea)? Hi!I am currently doing a Beauty Specialist Course and for my 1st project I need to find and Salon, Medical, Alternative, Dietary or Herbal etc treatments for all the above conditions. There isn't much on the net especially for Pigmentation. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

vision7 replied: "hi I would advice you to try some home based remedies for skin ,hair and weight problems, this link has some good information it sure did help me so here goes, goodluck"

Dark Horse replied: "Look up cosmetic laser treatments on the net. There are a variety of different laser treatments for the skin problems you have listed. Dependent on the type of laser it would be classed as either salon or medical. Also try looking up microdermabrasion. There's a book called "Away With Wrinkles" which is a good source of information (look it up on Amazon). Good luck with your project!"

DAZZAROO replied: "I belive that some medical tablets prescribed for acne can lead to depression and even suicide. Broken Cappillaries can be easily lasered away from a beauticians."

Emily S replied: "You could try puritycosmetics.co.uk. They do a range of natural makeup that is good for your skin."

How come I can't get rid of my acne? 3 months ago, I visited my doctor and he prescribed me BenzaClin. It is a cream that is for tropical treatment of moderate acne vulgaris. The cream is 1% as phosphate and 5% as benzoyl peroxide. At first, the cream appeared to work, the redness of my acne dulled away but after the 1st month, the cream appeared to be ineffective. So okay, I noticed the prescribed cream has started to become ineffective. I then decided to use home remedies such as toothpaste. It appeared to work at first but again, become ineffective after the 1st month of use. I have had this acne for over a year now! And it doesn't seem to go away, instead, it appears to be more acne starting to breakout on the forehead. What should I do now? Any tips or advises would be helpful **P.S. I've been washing my face with a facial cleanser 2 times a day, when I first wake up and before I go to bed.

Bo replied: "A lot of times those facial cleansers can make things worse by drying out your skin. I wouldn't recommend them."

Mike replied: "buy proactiv solution its very good use it 2 times a day..."

tyler replied: "Maybe you should see if your doctor will prescribe you Acutane. It's supposed to work great. I haven't personally used it but i'm going to soon because I used prescription creams like you with no success. I have a friend who was on it and her skin is totally clear now. The side effects are pretty scary, though."

Hailey replied: "sometimes when your a teenager, it stays because of all the stupid hormones and stuff... as you get older it's said to go away... i have no clue :l try MURAD... it's better than proactiv but it takes more than a month to work, the first 2 days u feel ur skin softer, and slowly it makes ur acne disappear. it's my 10th day using it and most of my acne is already cleared :l but u need to use a LOT of the cleansing soap thing that is the first step thing bottle... whatever :D but my cuzzin uses it too he had a ton of breakouts using other products until he used murad."

maykel replied: "Here i s an excellent site with some wonderful options for you. It will definitely help you. Have a look."

Laura replied: "I've been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it's at. I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life. I'm 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy. Literally the best acne face wash I've ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It's unique cause of it's herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem.com at the time which was helpful. You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn't work it will still save you butt on the return policy. Well good luck and best wishes."

Lol replied: "OK U MUST READ THIS IF U HAVE ACNE Theres a book called ''acne free in just 3 days''. SO after searching hard i found this in his book. PLZ READ EVERYTHING THIS REALLY WORKS! HOPE IT HELPS IM TRYING TO SPREAD THIS IS PEOPLE DONT SUFFER WITH ACNE LIEK I DID The Steps for the Apple Fast Method ____________________________ What you will need:# 1) 10 or more Red Delicious Apples PER DAY! Peel them before you eat them since most apple skins commercially produced have been sprayed with pesticides. (Jonathan will work as well.) # 2) 3 Fleet enemas or whatever brand is available or an enema bag. The enema bag will also work if you have one. With this you will need salt and baking soda. One teaspoon each in 1 quart of warm, NOT HOT water. # 3) Plenty of water to drink. Please have as much bottled or filtered tap water available. This way, you make sure you have it when you need to drink. The MORE water the BETTER! I drank 6-8 16 oz. bottles of water per day. #4) 3oz (juice glass) Welch’s Grape Juice for the last day ONLY! #5) 2 tablespoons of olive oil on the last day ALSO! Fasting is an age-old way to heal the body. It has been a form of healing throughout recorded history. It is even used by medical doctors of today for certain illnesses. Determining food allergies in a person is a good example: all food is stopped, and one food is reintroduced at a time to an individual until the culprit is discovered. There are many different types of fasts. Some are one day, others three to seven days. Some fasts, such as religious-based fasts, may last months. Some fasts are complete fasts where only water is taken and no food what so ever. Some, such as the apple fast, are specialty fasts that are used to treat certain conditions in the body with a particular herb or food taken alone. A fast works in the following way: by not eating food, the body completely expels all wastes and shuts down the digestive processes. This occurs in the 24-48 hour timeframe. The body begins digesting the oldest cells and fats that are stored. As this occurs, the individual on the fast sometimes feels tired or has a headache as toxins and diseased tissues are digested at the cellular level. This process occurs during days two and three of the fast. These symptoms are natural and usually pass. If you experience these discomforts, I suggest a cup of hot tea is fine; green tea is especially good. An old Chinese proverb says it best: “Better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one” (“The Miracle of Green Tea”). Although the Chinese have known the benefits of green tea for more than 89 4,000 years, American and European cultures have begun to appreciate it only recently. Of the three kinds of tea–oolong, black, and green–green tea is the most healthy and beneficial. All three types of tea come from the same plant; the unfermented leaves of green tea are, however, the least processed, a fact shown in natural green color that is retained in this kind of tea. This unfermented tea seems to provide a number of naturally healthy benefits and may be useful in the fight against the following: • arthritis • high cholesterol levels • cardiovascular disease • infections • impaired immune function • headaches • depression • viruses • aging • high blood sugar levels • obesity Green tea contains an antioxidant, EGCG, that is “at least 100 more times effective than vitamin C and 25 times more effective than vitamin E at protecting cells. . . from damage believed to be linked to cancer, heart disease, and other serious illnesses” (JapaneseGreenTeaOnline.com) The introduction of the apples creates an accelerated detox process, and the apple pectin absorbs metals and toxins as it moves through the body. This is why it is imperative you follow the directions exactly—fasting works and it will help you to heal your acne condition. 90 Day 1: THIS DIET MUST BE FOLLOWED FOR THREE FULL 24-HOUR DAYS! Peel and eat as many apples as you want and have as much water as you wish. I usually eat nine or ten apples; you can eat more, depending on the level of your hunger. However, you MUST drink at least 60 ounces of water each day! You must use the castor oil on your skin! The enema must be administered at the end of the day. Instructions for a thorough lower bowel cleansing. If you are on the apple fast, I cannot emphasize this step enough. An enema is simply the cleansing of the lower bowel with water – or water and salt or baking soda. The reason this step is so important on this fast is that as the apples move"

Should i continue the treatment of isotretinoin(oratane)? Isotretinoin, a medicine use to regulate sebum secretion, but the side effect is tremedous horrible. For the sake of beauty (get rid of acne vulgaris, oily sticky skin & hair), is it worth to trade off health for it? Is excessive oil of skin & scalp is a desease and need attention to be cured? Once in decision to do the treatment, what the effect if i give up on half way? (I have one month of treatment now, is suffering dry lip & in worrying of the others side effects attack).

Megan replied: "Don't worry! Stay calm! I took Accutane (isotretinoin) as well and you will experience dry lips and skin but it wont be horrible if you buy a gallon of vaseline and take it with you (umm seriouslY!) but dont worry i had no side effects and a lot of my friends saw how gorgeous my skin is now and they are all on it and they have no side effects either! go on it and dont be scared!"

jay1986 replied: "what side effects are you talking about? if you just have dry skin and lips, then no, you shouldn't stop accutane."

Blueberry replied: "Lemon juice seems to be a natural way to cleaning up pimples etc. All you need to do is cut a slice of lemon, rub it onto your pimples and leave it on overnight. Normally you will find that the pimples seem to get smaller and over the next few days, fade away, if you don't touch them! If you do this for a couple of days, it should help!"

girlie replied: "take a sewing needle and poke the center part of your pimple.. all the nasty white junk should come out. make sure to wash your face!"

dukesoverrated replied: "Or, instead of cutting up fruit and putting it on your face, CONTINUE to use what the doctor gave you, and understand that the medication takes time to work. Why would you even tell her to cut a lemon and put it on her face when shes got a doctor prescribed medication?"

Alex replied: "Daily wash your face 5 times without useing any soaps or etc and wipe your face by an clean cotton after every wash and dont use towels or any other things to wipe ok"

maddie; replied: "like one of the other people said, continue with the medication that is subscribed. i have the exact same issue as you! i havent tried lemon juice, but DONT pop you pimples with a sewing needles! that is really bad for your skin! perhaps look around for other medications you could take."

buffalopancake replied: "here's a good trick that even jennifer from ghost whisperer uses. just put some toothpaste on the pimple and do it 3 4 times. it might sound silly but it works. try it."

Tanika. replied: "Hey ! Wow, I totally know what you're going through. There are sometimes when my face just HATES me :P Any who, there are loads of things you can, firstly buy a herbal face wash & cream. Aloe Vera preferably. & what will definitely help is putting toothpaste on your zit in the nights, once again a herbal one preferably this will reduce the swelling & redness. Also apply an ice pack to your fresh zit every 2 hours for about 3 minutes. As a last resort buy an over the counter product like Benzoyl Product, it works like magic ! Just don't do ALL of them ALL at once because then your face will react. Never pinch or harass your zits because they will only spread. One more thing, try to stay away from heaty foods because pimples & acne is the result of too much heat in your body or hormonal imbalance. So no spicy food, mangoes..heaty food ! Hope my answer helped. & don't worry. The more you worry the more acne you'll get ! x"

xxxxx replied: "There is a difference between just pimples and acne vulgaris Pimples will go away with time. Acne Vulgaris is something that needs to be treated. Use acne-clearing products like Clearasil, Clean & Clear, etc. If you want to prevent more pimples i recommend EverYuth neem face wash, it makes the skin smoother and clearer Also have a good diet"

oriflame replied: "use oriflame tea tree face wash and tone gel. it is very effective for pimples and acne. rs. 279"

Antibiotics - Tygacil (Tigecycline) against severe acne? Recently a new broad spectrum antibiotic was introduced against MRSA Staph. Cocc. Aureus. I require this drug for my son who has severe acne vulgaris with pustules around his face. We have done a great improvement with Pro Active but the deep located furuncles remain. I treated him with Norfloxacin but this is not the ideal drug for Staph soft tissue infections. During adolescence young men frequently face this problem due to hormonal changes. But his case merits a treatment of full course antibiotics. Where in the US can we obtain it. We are residing abroad and can only obtain a foreign prescription.

Baby Girl 1214 replied: "NO. We are too happy to use Antibiotics for everything now. So when we get really sick we are imuned to them and they dont help. Also you body imunity weakens the more you take antibiotics. So while the product may work to rid you of acne, is it really worth it? There are so many other choices out there."

Natural healer replied: "Try an internal Aloe supplement and another with silver for the infection. The aloe rids your body of toxins and the silver will kill any germ alive and decrease the infection inside his skin. I also had severe acne with those deep painful infections on my face but they have cleaned up with these 2 all natural mineral supplements. My problems were also due to hormones. I now just wash my face with plain hot water and take the supplements. I hated the side effects of what the antibiotics were doing (yeast infections -yuck). The supplements are inexpensive, easy to take and have no negative side effects. email me for more info, Id love to help!"
