MW replied: "I would suggest asking a doctor, but it appears you've already done so. To call it safe, I'd stay off the alcohol as much as possible. You have plenty of recreation to stay healthy, but that doesn't completely prevent a reoccuring issue. As for the medication, that is definitely a doctor issue that I wouldn't take advice from off this page."

Jim replied: "Once you have had an MI, you will always carry the diagnosis of ASCAD (atherosclerotic coronary artery disease.) That mandates that you aggressively treat the risk factors for ASCAD which are smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Also obesity. For LIFE! Cardiovascular exercise is important because it causes the heart to develop additional blood vessels to supply the heart muscle which provides alternate blood flow in the event one becomes plugged with a clot. So far you have made an excellent recovery and you are on an excellent regimen of meds. You will need to take these for the rest of your life because of the above reasons. You quit smoking and are exercising. So, your goals should be to get your LDL below 100. You didn't mention your HDL but your goal should be >60 which is difficult so you do the best you can. Your BP should be down a little 110-120/60-80is better with resting heart rate around 60. Alcohol is alcohol as 12oz beer=5oz wine=1 oz liquor roughly so no more than 1-2 servings a day. None is best. You should always have a fresh bottle of nitro with you to use in the event you develop angina. Keep up the good work! A final note is that you can only receive streptokinase once so be sure to have that you received it on a list of meds and your info about your MI on a card that you carry in your wallet."

mompoo replied: "Probably for the rest of your life."

BP is 117/76, pulse is 105 - heart attack patient? I had a heart attack 4 mts ago - 100% blockage of the LAD. Angioplasty and 1 Cypher DE Stent. For the last 2 days my pulse has shot up and stayed at 105-110 resting. I have some damage to my LV and septum. No arrhythmias, EF at 55% 2 mts ago. My chest is pounding. Not dehydrated. Taking Plavix (75 mg); Metoprolol (12.5mg); Lipitor (100mg); Niaspan (500 mg); Asprin (320 mg)....should this be a cause for concern - should I go to the ER?

laylagrace replied: "I'm no doctor, but I might go just to be safe. Your blood pressure is fine, but your pulse is high and considering your history ,better safe than sorry. Good luck"

lightworker27 replied: "your bp is in the normal range, but your pulse is quite hi. Call your doctor if not in serious pain. but, since in your case you just had a heart attack, you might want to go to the er"

glaser2343 replied: "I would contact your Dr. and see what they say. There should be someone on call for your Dr. office. Let them know what is going on and if they think you need to be seen in the ER or just call the next morning. If you do go to the ER you could have an EKG done and that may show something that you are not aware of. Call the Dr. first. Good luck"

candyapple0488 replied: "Well, heres what I can tell you. Normal blood pressure should be 120/80 but it sounds awful that you are on so many meds. I think that you need to look over your life style. Do you smoke, drink, do you eat somewhat healthy. You need to be getting "living" food and by that I mean raw. So vegies and fruits are always better raw because they contain more nutrients in them. You need to exercise too. It seems to me like you might be not exercising and eating an unhealthy diet. Stop the fast food and start exercising you will feel so much better. I am very conciencious about my health and I eat healthy and exercise on a regular basis. I like doing Turbo Jam and Billy Blanks. But you might want to talk to your doctor before you do something like that. Also, are you overweight. I know people who were overweight but after they took control of their own life, they got off their meds because they did not need them anymore. You are the only one who has control over your life. Take control now before its to late. You will feel so much better. I hope that this helps you and im sorry that you had to go through a heart attack. That is scary. If you want, you can e-mail me if you have any more questions. Good luck!"

versantly replied: "call your cardiologist."

Penny P replied: "I wouldn't go to the ER, since it's been TWO days that your pulse has been high, unless of course, you are symptomatic. If you have chest pain, dizzyness, or shortness of breath go in. You should definately call your doctor and get in to see him/her as soon as possible though, to make sure your heart rhythm is normal. (call straigh away in the morning) It's possible you need a medication change..... but your doc should at least do an EKG for rhythm check ."

pitchingcoach replied: "I would check with my cardiologist. Your b/p is good. Just the pulse. Mine used to do the same until I was prescribed Metoprolol. I was given 25mg. however and told that was only half a usual dose. I would question the amount you're taking. Otherwise trust your doctor. Good luck with this."

Please help I have a bleeding stomach. What medicine is causing it.? Please help I have a bleeding stomach. What medicine is causing it. Metoprolol 25 mg Liptor 40 mg war farin 2m plavix 75 mg Please advise I am 90 years old.

grimmyTea replied: "Both warfarin and Plavix will make you bleed more easily from any part of your body. You need to discuss this with your doctor. You must have been put on these medications for a reason and stopping them could cause problems just as bad as the bleeding stomach."

Dan replied: "You should probably seek professional medical advice. You are on two medications that increase the risk of bleeding: warfarin and plavix."

Dynasty replied: "Call your pharmacist and tell him your symptoms, he knows what medications you are on as well as the doses. This is his area of expertise and he will have a recommendation for you. Unfortunately, we have to be our own advocates in the medical industry, but it is truly for our own safety, good for you for seeking answers. After you have consulted the pharmacist, go to the Dr. taking a family member or good friend with you, explain the pharmacist's recommendation. I am glad you are getting this cleared up for your own health and safety."

why am i getting deep left chest pains, upper back pains, rising blood pressure, extreme fatigue??? help!? Ok maybe i need to vent but here it is. about 6 or 7 months ago i went into the er for what they diagnosed with tachycardia my pulse was running around 140 and while i was in the er they diagnosed me with high blood pressure it was around 160/85. Since then ive been getting these weird but sever chest pains. they come and go but theyre deep pains in my left and middle of chest and also in my upper back left side. Ive been to to my primary doctor and he says its a gi problem because hes done so many test.Ive had a cat scan of my chest wich revealed NO abnormalities at all, Ive had a cat scan of my abdomen and pelvis NO abnormalities, Gall bladder ultrasound which revealed fatty liver but nothing else, echocardiogram which revealed nothing, 5 ekg's which all came back negative.I dotn know what to do anymore. I feel lost and helpless i went to the gi doctor and im scheduled for a endoscopy later this week. But it seems my pains have been intensifing i have my good days and my bad days. Its ususally not set off by physicall excertion because i also had a stress test done which came back negative. But now theyre random i can be laying down and get them or standing. Ill be honest they really put me anxious and stress me out when i get them cus altough they come for a second and go they hurt like hell. Hurts so much that it makes me stop what im doing. I am 23 years young and am overweight, im 6 foot 1 290 pounds altough i used to weigh 326 (lost the weight after the er scare and trying to lose even more). My blood pressure was running around 130/80 but lately because the pains have been more often its been running around 140/90. I do take medication i take 20mg of benicar and 75 mg of metoprolol. I feel tired slugginsh all the time and it makes me feel not like myself. What do i have??? where can i find answers?? if its not heart releated why is it originating from my chest area around my heart?? Any suggestions please reply thanks from what my cardiologist tells me its not angina, he said i dnt have a mvp and that my heart is healthy with no damages

pacemaker replied: "see a heart specialist right away , pain makes the B.P. go up so does hypertension so see a Specialist"

sai dileep v replied: "may be you have angina symptoms,so when ever u have this prob better use a sublingual isosorbide dinitrate or glycerine trinitrate tablet or check ur patency of ur vessels ang give me report i will help u out"

ejbuttons replied: "You are on two good medications to help with your heart and blood pressure. If they did think it was GI they could give you a nitrate which relaxes smooth muscle so if it was esophageal spasms it would relax it and help or if it is your heart it is striated and a mix muscle that it would help. That's the safe thing about treating it as heart until proven that it is not. Since you are so heavy and complaint of being tired, whats your risk factors of blood clots? No VQ lung scan done? Besides an angiogram which would suggest loosing more weight before that because at your weight post complications are much greater than symptoms so far since no change in EKG, or ECHO with negative stress test. Your at to high of risk due to weight for developing a pseudoaneurysm, to safely have an angiogram. How about checking for an aortic aneurysm?"

Which one of these medications are making me sleepy and changing the taste of food I eat? The only medication I have ever had to take in my life was antibiotics, allergy and heartburn medications. So I know that none of the above ever bothered me. Now I have to take the following medications, I feel sleepy and some foods that I used to love taste different now: Plavix 75 mg Aspirin 325 mg Lopressor 25 mg substituted with Metoprolol Pravachol 40 mg (two tabs daily=80 mg daily) These medications were prescribed after one stent placement.

relyt replied: "go to webmd.com then search pill identifier and it will give you all the info you need to know about any pill you are taking."

Kelsey replied: "The metoprolol is a beta blocker which are notorious for causing fatigue. This usually diminishes within the first 4 weeks of taking the medication. The Pravachol is probably causing the altered taste. If it's teribly bothersome to you, talk with your doc. There are lots of medications in the same family as Pravachol (statins), and you may have better luck with one of the others."
